Considering the recent outbursts of Joe Wilson, Kanye West, Serena Williams-- what's happened to civility?

Update:

Salsbury; Ms Williams threatened a line judge with physical violence. Does a bad call justify threats?

Update 2:

So since these things have always happened, it's OK that they are still happening? And, by the way, Jimmy Carter never called Bush a fag.

Update 3:

I don't give thumbs down, by the way.

Update 4:

I really can't buy any excuses for bad behavior by public personalities. If no one's listening, then smart people find diplomatic ways to handle that problem.

people have no concept of consideration anymore.

they dont think about being on tv, about children wathcing, about parents or valuses.

    Just their own personal satistaction.

Good question-have a star. I'l go back into history (and I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong).

As a child growing up, I remember manners were mandatory and the order of the day. Misbehaved, and you were smacked down. That was considered discipline. You didn't "Bring shame on the family name." Respect was well,....respected.

Somewhere along the line rudeness overtook manners. Civics, decorum, respect and ethics vanished. Now unfortunately, rudeness is the norm, it's everywhere and escalating-on the road, in the workplace, on sidewalks, etc. Kids now have more rights than parents. No matter how much they misbehave, hit/yell at one (discipline). They'll grab their cell and call Child Services.

Parental upbringing? No more censorship on tv/radio? Overall society? Technology? Increased stress? Medication? Job/home loss fear? Could be one, or all of the above, or more.

(Some) people need to find their peace from within and draw from it-otherwise these outbursts will continue, unfortunately.

The uncivil people are getting a lot of press aren't they? Wonder what would happen if the media boycotted people who showed their butts in public, for say a year, and see how they would like that. I think Madonna and those who hang out with her to learn her tricks taught people that bad attention is better than none at all. Even a dog will misbehave for a little attention.

I suppose that "Kinder & Gentler Nation concept" got booted out & replaced with CHANGE! Since the events you speak of are NOTHING like the events of the 1960's, it don't think it's all that shocking when people blurt out ridiculous statements.

I have to ask myself why nothing was ever done to prevent them from happening to begin with!

I don't happen to think that most Americans WANT to see all this turmoil coming across their television sets.

Perhaps it's time to bring back the old 60 second delay of yesteryear & bleep this stuff out before it hits the air & ruins the moment for those of us watching it on the boob tube!

The price I pay for cable is uncivil...when I could see it for free on the regular stations...uncensored & just as crude as the real thing. I just have to turn the sound off due to the comments of the newscasters & advertisements!

Manners is not what it used to be in any facet of society and especially in Tennis. It first started with John McEnroe's outrageous outbursts of temper a few years back, but the Williams sisters and their shameful behavior have turned Tennis into a ghetto game. I no longer enjoy watching it.

Nothing new here. Just happened on camera with famous people in the starring roles.

I didn't grow up living around diplomatic people. It was common to have someone get right up in your face if you made them mad. Not that there's any excuse for bad behavior. It's still bad.

For the time I have been growing older and older I have noticed, distinctly the deterioration of American civility, good common sense, respect for people and laws. Greed and corruption has surfaced like dirty sour cream to the top. I know I won't be living long enough to see the society devastated by anarchy. I contribute this phenomenon to extreme liberalism that has plagued America for the last 30 - 40 years. The very sad thing about it is that it looks like there is no turning around.

The interesting fact is that some of us have never "let go" like that, causing havoc and using profanity.

If the words are not in your head already, you will not turn around when upset and use them. It is what you think most of the time, that comes out when you are angry or drunk.

The "real" you comes out when circumstances are upsetting and sad to say, this summer we have seen what some people are really like, inside.

When a person drinks it either does one of two things, it changes a personality to either being silly, or it makes them belligerent, angry, violent and threatening.

In America we tolerate a congress filled with thieves but not a word is said by their fellow politicians. We have a President who lies incessantly. If they can steal and lie so blatantly, who cares what we do. At 67 years old I can finally see that the Emperor has no clothes. Vote them all out!

  • Civility has been sugar coated so long it made some people believe racism was history. The recent protests against the first bi racial President as well as the comments made in recent news about Serena Williams & Michelle Obama being gorillas, and suggesting that Michael Vick, Chris Brown and now Kanye West have all had many people on many different blog sites as well as here say they should be hanged. When people feel that someone's life isn't worth much because he simply acted out in public shows you where the civility has gone to Black people! We've never been the savages Whites has called us, but now its on blast for the whole world to see who's unprofessional, ghetto, ignorant and unpoised.

Lady Luck sums it up very nicely when she says:

"I think it just shows a very poor upbringing.

All the money in the world doesn't buy good manners and common sense."

I would add, that it shows a real lack of class and character.

Kanye should be banned from future award shows.

Maybe someone could call "Nanny 911" to teach him some manners.

and nothing is so gentle as real strength." - Ralph W. Sockman
