sorry i dont know what properties are, but i would love to help you debate your son.

    the steps are:

    1/4 (12-8) +3 (15 /5-2)

    1/4 (4) + 3 (3-2) parentheses first but division come before subtraction.

    1/4(4) + 3(1)

    1 + 3

    =4

i don't know if i helped but that's the right answer.

ok, so you solve it like this:

    1/4 (12-8)+3 [15/(5-2)]

1st you subtract 12-8 since its in parenthesis (PEMDAS) and you also subtract the 5-2 at the end of the problem.

so now it should look something like

    1/4 (4)+3[15(3)]

since you dont have any exponents, you go to multiplication.

    1/4 times 4 is one and 15 time 3 is 45

now, your equation should look like this:

    1+ 3(45)

then you multiply 3 by 45, remember that you do NOT add 1+3, you multiply 3 by 45. Just follow the rules of math (PEMDAS) and youll be fine. so 3 by 45 is 135 and then you add the 1 and your final answer is 136!!! hope this helps you guys out!!!!

I'm not sure what you mean but I'll give it a try

    1. you do the brackets ( the abstraction in 1st and division in 2nd)

    2. finish brackets ( 2nd brackets abstraction )

    3. multiply the results respectively

    4. sum the 2 final numbers
