What trees drain the soil of water?
I heard Willow can be good to plant if a field is too marshy. What trees absorb most water and dry out the field?
I'm in Ireland

Oak Poplar Ash Elder are the trees that will absorb the most water from wet ground. I am a Surveyor for the RICS and one of the researches i conduct is about the trees that take water from soils as they can do serious damage to buildings because of the amount of water they take from sub soils and clay which makes the ground shrink and therefore makes certain buildings that are buit upon certain land structures to subside and crack.

Yep - willow is very good, and will thrive in marshy areas, but won't take enough to dry a field out.
If you want to plant them for shelter though it;s really easy - just cut some willow "wands" - about 3 ft lengths, cut the bases again with secateurs - and just push them into the ground about 1 ft. Amazingly - you will get about 80% of them growing.
To drain a field, you really need to get a JCB or trench digger to dig a boundary ditch around the wettest part - draining downhill, but this is only part of it.
Next you need a tractor with what is known as a subsoiler. It is basically 3 very strong blades - 2 ft long, with "torpedoes" at their tips.
Drive tractor back to ditch, engage subsoiler to depth, then drive along field in a straight line UPHILL.
This has the effect of making a drainage "pipe" in the soil itself.
It needs doing if the ground gets boggy again, but lasts a surprising length of time.
The good thing is - It's instant drainage, does not involve laying pipes, and is cheap & eco-friendly.

Where are you from? Why people don't specify that? Anyways, Eucalyptus is the plant soaks lot of water (a grown up tree soaks and releases about 300 liters (depending on area and heat around) every day. It's a long process.
Dig a trench on slopping side of the land to cover your boarder completely, say about 60 s. m. wide and one or two meters deep (again depends on how much water you have in land.) and in a few days your land will dry.

Yep.. your dead right about Willow being good in wet, boggy ground.. But, if your garden or wherever is a wet area and you want it 'dried up', the only real answer is drainage! 'Fraid theres no quick or magical solution to poorly drained soil.. just move the water elsewhere!
