How to resolve ethanol plant problems?

I have to write a paper for my Environmental Issues class. My topic is the completion and start up of the Janesville, mn, ethanol plant.

I stated the issue that basically that the consequences out way the benefits. Some of the benefits being that it is a cleaning burning fuel to to fossil fuels and that it will allow many minnesotans to get a job.. then the consequences being that to make the corn biased bio fuel uses more Diesel fuels then the benefits of the cleaning burning fuel.

and now i have to answer the question do people have different opinions about how the issue can be resolved?

and im not exactly what to say. so if someone could help me out with that question that would be great thank you!

I love your question! there are other disadvantages than what you mention - ethanol production uses a lot of water and is not economically viable without government support and subsidies. diverting corn to ethanol production drives up the cost of food corn and feed corn - to the detriment of consumers.

certainly there differing opinions. bio diesel from soy is much more efficient economically and environmentally. ethanol from cellulose (like from switchgrass) makes much more sense than ethanol from food sources, but is not viable yet. I am from MN also and feel our govt is making a mistake in pushing corn base ethanol production -
