can i use chains on a car thats lowered?
i live in california but i might have to take my car all the way to fort Eustis in virginia. my car is lowered and i need to know if there's any type of chain i can use for the snow. a friend told me that regular chains will ruin my fenders and inner fenders because i do not have a lot of clearance. the tires are actually about 1.5 maybe 2 inches at the most from the fender. my very last option is raising the car back to stock but that would be more expensive and time consuming than chains. any ideas? (im thinking there has to be something out there because bmw and some mercedez cars don't have a lot of clearance either)
(the car is a 2001 eclipse thats lowered 2 inches)
the stock Minimum Ground Clearance is 6.4 inches.... mine is about 4.4 inches of the ground at its lowest point

Don't drive the car in the snow.Sounds like its dropped low,an driving it could cause it to bottom out an cause more damage to the undercarriage, wheel axels,or oil pan from unforeseen dangers in the snow.

Juan, I haven't hear about thinner chains, they all come with a measure. Raising your car some of the factory engineered spacing, will take your car out of balance in the curves. You may find in the market many kits to raise your car, but they are very expensive, and they not guarantee you the potential of an accident. I think you need another vehicle and have that expensive car to use it in your state and those states around you.

I live in Canada, and we definitely get a lot more snow up here, and I would not suggest to use chains at all. In fact, I can't remember the last time anyone used them. Just get some good snow tires, that way you wont risk damaging your car.
