If H1N1 flu's symptoms are the same as those for ordinary flu, why the big hype?

On the one hand, we are told it is not all that dangerous, on the other hand, they are taking measures as if it was a replay of the Spanish flu of 1920.

    its largely because of how rapidly it spreads. like, the WHO pandemic scale actually has NOTHING to do with how deadly or life threatening an illness is, it has to do with how it is getting transferred and how quickly.

    most people havent actually LOOKED at the different levels on the scale and dont realize this, so everyones like "AMG! WERE AT STAGE SIX! WERE GONNA DIE!" when all it really means is that yeah, your more likely to catch it than you might have been if we were only in stage five
