Hi! I'm eighteen as well, and I love action books. I'm going to recommend Young Adult books: they're not as long, and besides they're my favorites : ) I guarantee that you will DEFINITELY want to read the following:
A. The Alex Rider Series, by Anthony Horowitz
These books feature a teenage spy working with MI6 (British Secret Intelligence.) They are action-packed, and have been described as a junior version of James Bond. The great thing about these books is that there are a LOT of them, with more still to come out. I would highly recommend these!
1. Stormbreaker
2. Point Blank
3. Skeleton Key
4. Eagle Strike
5. Scorpia
6. Ark Angel
7. Snakehead
...And the eighth one should be coming out soon!
B. The CHERUB Series, by Robert Muchamore
There will eventually be twelve books in this series, the last of which will be released at the end of 2010. Sadly, I have not read all of these books because my library never orders new books, and I'm broke. However, the ones that I have read are awesome! Lots of action, and just generally amazing.
1. The Recruit
2. Class A
3. Maximum Security
4. The Killing
5. Divine Madness
6. Man vs. Beast
7. The Fall
8. Mad Dogs
9. The Sleepwalker
10. The General
11. Brigands MC
12. Shadow Wave (coming late 2010)
C. The "Airborn" series, by Ken Oppel
These are some of my favorites! They're about a cabin boy aboard an airship (basically a blimp) and his adventures. This might sound weird, but the books seem realistic even though there are elements of fantasy. (Just like the Harry Potter series is written realistically, with elements of the world that we know, even though it's fantasy.) Great books...I haven't met anyone that hasn't liked them! Basically, they're made of awesome.
1. Airborn
2. Skybreaker
3. Starclimber
D. The Young Bond Series, by Charlie Higson
Just what it sounds like! The Young Bond series are about Ian Fleming's James Bond as a teenage boy.
1. SilverFin
2. Blood Fever
3. Double or Die
4. Hurricane Gold
5. By Royal Command
If you want books that are a bit longer, you can try books by Dan Brown. He's written way more than the DaVinci Code: try Digital Fortress or Deception point. Also, James Patterson writes great suspense thrillers. Try the Alex Cross series.
Well, that's about it! I guarantee that these books will keep you on the edge of your seat...or sofa...or bed...or whatever. Happy Reading!

I would try reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It got great reviews and there is tons of action, suspense, and the occasional violence. I heard they were even thinking of making it into a movie because it was so good.
Also, check out The Last Thing I Remember by Andrew Klavin. It also got great reviews.
