Is it cheaper to build or buy a dog house?

I was wondering what is a good measurement size to build for a medium size dog? I have a pitbull which is about 60 pounds and was thinking of building her a new house.

This will help you size a dog house. Seems like a great website.

I have a large dog..have been looking around for dog houses and have found it is definately cheaper to build your own house, it can be decorated in colours you want, and it is customized to your dog..way better to build your own if you are able and have to tools and knowledge.

    Build Your Own Dog House

I built my dogs (2 German Shepard/Lab Mix) a dog house pretty cheap and easily. I used 2 x 4 frame and made it 4 foot tall and 8 foot long. This is the exact measurement of the plywood used for sheds which is what I used for the walls, I cut the front down to 3 foot tall, cut out an opening, covered it with one pack of shingles, and painted it to match my house. It cost me about $100.00. When I priced seperate dog houses (since I had 2 dogs), it was coming up to about twice as much. It depends on your weather (we have frigid winters, lots of snow, and severe storms) and if the dog is outside all the time or if this is just going to be a shady place to cool off or to get out of the wind.

    Depends how crafty you are!

It can be a real pain to build.... I'd weigh out the time and effort of building versus the cost of buying. If it takes you 2-3 days to build + supplies...and to buy costs $150.... then you'll have to decide which is most important...

I'm leaning towards = just buy one already built. =0)
