My Baby has MRSA will this go away?

He is 4. We went to the Ped over a month ago. Used all the antibiotic and it seemed to go away. Then came back so back we went. We got Bactroban, this is hard to use on a 4 year old that has an aversion to band-aids. BUT he did well and left them on. All seemed fine until this week another pimple came up. Now is it a huge reddened knee. I do have more prescripts for stronger antibiotics. I was told to wait until the MRSA came back. So I will fill them tomorrow.

But what els can I do. Will it go away. Should I get another DR? I am just so scared.

Update:

I want to fill them today. But I live in a small sothern town and the pharmace that has the precript on file is closed.

The same thing happened to my son when he was 9.We had regular antibiotics first,it went away then came back 2 weeks later. Then the Ped. gave him a much stronger antibiotic that was a liquid, it was really expensive and the possible side effects were scary but I can't remember the name of it( It was not IV though). We used that and the Bactroban together, along with very warm baths( as hot as he could stand it without burning him) with antibacterial soap.It cleared up quickly after that and he hasn't had it since, but the ped. did say that he will be more susceptible to it now.It was a very scary time but we made it through fine and I'm sure your son will too.One more day on the prescription shouldn't make that much difference,my son had 4-5 pimples and they cleared up quickly on the right medication.Make sure you call the doctor to see if you should continue to use the bactroban while on the antibiotics,we did and I think it really helped. Also,I had to "drain" the pimples to get the infection out faster. We did this right after bath time when his skin was soft from the water. It's such a hard thing to go through especially for a little one who doesn't understand.Good luck to you both.Hope he feels better soon.

ok. everyone carries the bacteria staph aureus as normal skin bacteria. however not everyone carries the Methicillin Resistant form of staph aureus. generally once a person has been identified as being MRSA positive they are considered a carrier. the bug usually doesn't exhibit too many problems unless the person is immunocompromised (has a chronic immune disease like AIDS or the eldery generally have dimished immune response). you probably noticed that while your baby was in the hospital they had special isolation precautions as to mininimize any possible spread of the the MRSA (or they should have). For any future hospitalizations the same contact precautions will be inacted, unless for some reason the doctor declares them MRSA free. These isolation precautions are used to minimize/stop any possible spread of the bacteria to other patients who are extremely susceptible because their immune systems are already down.. hope this helps

I would try to find a better doctor that will try harder to take care of your son. Staph will go away but unfortunately MRSA wont. It will always be in his system and you should always either take him to the doctor and get meds or have so available in case it comes back. It is very contagious and it can get pretty bad if it isn't taken care of. I hope I could help a little bit. Sorry to hear that he has it. He will be ok.

Unfortunately, some people become colonized with the bacteria, causing recurrent infections. However, your doctor should probably refer you to an infectious disease specialist. Continuous treatment of the infection could lead to your child building an immunity to the antibiotics. Hibiclens seems to be effective for decolonizing the skin.

I don't think it will ever go away...it usually comes back when your immune system is down..what antibiotics do they have him on..the one I have heard to treat MRSA is vancomycin..which is IV..i'm not sure if it comes in a pill..or not..if it makes you feel more comfortable it wouldn't hurt taking him to another doctor just for a second opinion..you wouldn't have to let your other doctor know..good luck..
