My dog Killed a stray cat, what to do?

My dog killed an adult stray cat sometime between midnight and or this morning around 5 am. when i woke up the cat which i thought was a log, (he shews on firewood a lot!) was in the middle of the yard stiff and dead! i was wondering if my dog can get some type of sickness? my dog has all his shots he is 1 year old! it worries me b.c he threw up a yellow thing.... he was running and out of no were started to cough and threw up the yellow thing! he ills birds all the time! and sometimes he even kills mice. but this time i am more worried yes even more worried than when he kills mice since they have a lot of disease around them!!

please help!

Update:

Alright thanks for everyone and their support!

my dog is a siberian husky...they are very stuborn, he does know the basics of leave it sit stay out down speak roll over and crawl. the reason why he was outside is because he sleeps out side, we do not keep him inside b.c he does not like it he howls all trhough the night and he wont sleep. we have nvr had a problem with him killing a cat, he bit 1 baby bird that i belive fell of his nest, the mice come from my neighbor's chicken house....very annoying! he was oviously unsupervised b.c i dont sleep with him outside lol..... today i bought a kenel so from now on he is sleeping in there. like i said this has never happened b4 which is why i am concerned. the cat was taken by the animal control, they sayd nothing they just said poor kitty this is y ppl should have their cats fixed, my dog is very sweet though he does hate birds though he hates them A LOT! they eat his food. ive had him since he was 2mnths and he's nvr dne tht til 2mths ago

i don't think your dog will get sick from it..it's good you got a kennel for him so he can't kill another one.. i agree on getting cats fixed..where we live we are over run by feral cats because the animal control won't take them..they say they are considered wild animals..

As the first poster said, there is the possibility of fleas. I'd also worry about worms, which he can get even if he chews on mice. You can also have the cat's brain examined via autopsy for piece of mind to make sure it doesn't have rabies, although if the dog is vaccinated, you shouldn't have to worry anyway. Just handle the cat body with gloves.

I'm also agreeing with the first poster... what is your dog doing outside unsupervised at 5 AM?

double bag and toss the cat obviously or call animal control to come pick it up. Make sure your dog has plenty of water, but if he is otherwise fine through the night, just make a call to your vet in the morning and talk to them.

Mice can be an issue if people are leaving out Decon for them. If he kills and eat one he could end up with secondary poisoning.

Bring the dog inside where he belongs! If you don't want an indoor dog, then you don't want and shouldn't have a dog. A dog can get sick killing all these various animals, not to mention he may have killed someone else's pet. You don't know what those animal may have been in contact with.

No big deal. Just call a vet and ask them for information on what to look out for. Otherwise it's alright. I get bitten and scratched by cats all the time. I just disinfect them and go off on my way. Just put some rubbing alcohol on the wounds and forget about it :]

Chooch- since when do dogs get agressive after killing something?

and since when can you not train out agression??

better tell all those darn sighthounds and hunting dogs owners.

    If you're not a troll, you're a damn idiot.

How about you TRAIN your dog to "LEAVE IT" and SUPERVISE it when it's outside like a responsible owner?

    Logic- you don't have it.

When in doubt, call your vet. Likely the worse your dog got was fleas.

Try training him commands, or you make him stay inside the house more often.

Once your dog gets the taste of blood in his mouth, he becomes more aggressive and mean. You might need to consult your vet to see if there is anything wrong with him. If he does get aggressive, then you might have to put him down... Sorry!

I would take him to the nearest veterinarians hospital ASAP
