I, too, live in New England. I have painted with all types of paint in every season and never, not once, did I ever have a problem with the paint or drying time. I used fans in the humid summertime weather and turned the heat on in the winter. So, go ahead and paint all you want, whenever you want.

What you may recall about wintertime painting has nothing to do with dampness, it is the temperature of the walls. Just be sure you read the paint can and abide by the painting temperature specifications and you will be able to paint the inside of your house in a freezing ice storm. I know, because I did it !!

So, get out those brushes and rollers and have at it !!

Interior walls you can paint anytime, however, I wouldn't paint when it's really damp and rainy. It's just going to take longer for the paint to dry because of all the humidity. And it's better to use low VOC paints inside when you can't open the windows and doors for ventilation. We already have too many allergens and chemicals in our inside are; don't need to add more when we don't have to!

Outside painting is much more temperature sensitive. Most exterior paints won't cure properly under 50 degrees F. There are special paints available that will cure at lower temps. And with the heavy dew that cooler nights bring, it takes longer for your outside surface to dry out enough to be able to paint in the first place.

As long as you have the heat on during the winter, you can paint! In fact, it might actually be better to paint interiors during the winter since the house is heated and the environment in the home is dry (compared to the summer).

You can paint whenever you like, but most tend to stay away from the rainy season. Humidity in the air will cause the paint to take a bit longer to dry. I usually opt for sunny days when possible, but if you have been getting weather like us, then you just never know what it will be like out there. I have painted in every kind of weather and all seasons without a problem.

Is it too damp in the winter there? Maybe the paint will not dry properly or you will get mold if you paint.

I don't think I have ever heard of not painting at a certain time of year, we just tend to do ours when the weather is nicer and we can leave the windows open to air out the house.
