HR 1495, Tax Rebate Health Option?
I came across this a few weeks ago and have been contemplating it. I've decided that I'm for this particular idea in the arena of health care reform, but in talking to people discovered like myself, no one had heard of it despite it hitting the floor in March. Thus, I'm here to toss the idea out for everyone to consider and talk pros and cons.
Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act of 2009 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to:
(1) revise the tax credit for the health insurance costs of a taxpayer, the taxpayer's spouse, and dependents to increase the amount of, and expand eligibility criteria for, such credit;
(2) permit up to $500 of unused health benefits under a health flexible spending arrangement to be carried over to a succeeding plan year or paid directly to an employee as compensation;
(3) revise the tax deduction for payments to a health savings account to eliminate the requirement for coverage under a high deductible health plan; and
(4) repeal the 7.5% threshold limitation on the tax deduction of medical and dental expenses.
Good or bad?
I'm not a Ron Paul supporter per say, I like some of his ideas, not all. I like some of Dennis Kucinich's ideas, but not all. But, sidetracking the idea into a partisan conversation misses the entire point of the question. I agree, it will probably go no where because there are no unions, companies or lobbyists supporting it. That in itself is sad and very telling to the state our government is in. But a good idea is a good idea in my book and I wanted to relay. The question is if you don't think it's a good idea, why not?
I agree, it will not lower the cost of health care... but I don't think that's the point. I think the point... or at least this is what I got out of it... is to be able to access a pool of money you would normally lose altogether as an incentive to take better care of yourself.
I imagined it from this perspective: I normally don't do yearly dental or physical appointments because my particular insurance is set up in yearly pools of money. However, were I able to at the end of the year file them into my taxes, I would definitely go annually because I'd get more of my money back at tax time.
So, in that respect, it IS an incentive for someone like me. Does that make sense or did I explain that badly?

See the area in "what's your source?" to be sure why that's a crock. Who makes. not to show owes in taxes and SS, numerous hundred thousand or tens of millions, the cost of scientific catastrophes that positioned human beings into chapter 11 through fact it maxes out their insurance? it particularly is yet yet another asinine conservative band-help the place a tourniquet is needed. however the only way Obama's is extra useful is that if that's going to truly consequences contained in the destruction of the HMO racket.

it sounds good but it was written to sound like an amendment so it really depends on the healthcare bill that it gets attached to.

Pointless, it just like the rest of the bill, does nothing to lower costs of health insurance.
