Does the media influence/affect teen pregnancy?
What are your opinions on if the media influenced teen pregnancy. Like television shows create certain views on it, and sort of glamorize it. Any opinions will help, whether you believe media does have an influence or not. Thanks.

a bit yes. but i think more so the utter LACK of education in STDs and pregnancy is what the problem is.
Bush approved programs for abstinence at a budget of millions and yet the pregnancy rate increased!
abstinence is and should be an important PART of education but i think teaching kids the WHYS not just the NOs is best.
if you look to other countries which use safe sex and STD classes and programs their teen pregnancy rate is significantly lower than the US, and yet their censorship when it comes to sex on TV or in the media is MUCH less censored as ours...that says something.
I'm not encouraging my kids to have sex that's for sure, but i'll be dammed if i let them make a HUGE decision like that on their own w/out ALL the information necessary to make a truly good choice.
that's like buying them a car at 16 yet not teaching them to drive responsibly....an accident is bound to happen.

Yes the media influences it-
Juno, 90210, The Secret Life of an American Teenager, think about those, teens watching shows about pregnant teens and teen moms.

The Medias just messed up to begin with, lets say Body image. Plus people don't understand anything anymore, we have pretty much just F*ck up everything on TV.
Look at reality TV shows, Its all set up and still people watch it.
People yell about cartoons being to violent but in reality look what today's horror movies are like.

I think that if we didnt have a negative opinion about being a pregnant teen, then there would be more- but not too many more. PSA's help alot, i think. But i dont think they go very far to keep legs closed. x/

yes, they show all these kids having kids themselves like its great and they sugar coat alot of stuff making it look glamorous, like teen celebs with kids, it just encourages kids that look up to them to want to be that way. all these shows on tv that are supposed to make them not want kids make them want them even more i think. they high light the positives and leave out reality and what really happens since you cant show everything on tv.
