How is Floyd Mayweather rated 2 at welterweight in the Ring ratings?
He has basically fought only Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah and Ricky Hatton at 147 (the last to being natural 140 pounders). Put him where you want pound for pound, but it is an insult to guys who are making their mark in that division, taking on other top level welterweights.
To Norman and Sean G and everyone else that thinks Floyd is the best in the world, and that beating Marquez puts him back at the top of P4P...I basically agree. But he isn't a real welterweight, he didn't even fight at 147 for his last fight. I feel the same way about Hopkins ranking at 175, why not just rank him has the no. 1 super middleweight too - he isn't fighting exclusively (or at all really) in any category, and his last 2 wins were at 170 pounds! He is 1-1 as a 175 pounder....come on!
By the logic a lot of you are offering, why not rank Floyd as the no 1 crusierwieght? He is more skilled and has had a better career than anyone fighting there, right? Or how about at 140, or 126?
They made up P4P for a couple reasons, and this is now one of them.

Floyd Mayweather has fought brilliant against Marquez, but unfortunately it was expected as he is a 5-1 favorite. However I disagree that he is the no.2 p4p because Mosley have had a better career, specifically against Welterweights. I also disagree that he is the 2nd best Weltweight behind Mosley and above Coto. He should be ranked no. 3.
Cotto fought top 10 welterweights that includes Margarito, Mosley, Clottey and Carlos Quintana. Mayweather only fought Judah and Baldmor. Baldomir was considered a journeyman and until today many believed his victory over Judah was a fluke since he already had six defeats. Judah on the other hand was KO'd by Cotto. Quintana, Margarito, Clottey, and Mosley were all defeated by Cotto, except Marga-cheato. Cotto is the undisputed welterweight champion in most people's eyes! Mosley is second and Mayweather is 3rd.

You said he ONLY fought Carlos Baldomir...
Carlos Baldomir was a welterweight that walked around at 190 out of the ring, he was on a 21 fight undefeated streak (which inckluded wins over Judah, Clottey and Gatti), he also was the RING, IBO, IBA, and WBC champion at 147lbs.
and Zab Judah...
Who at the time was 34-3 and one loss removed from being the undisputed / WBC Welterweight champion.
Floyd fought the last 2 Ring Magazine Welterweight champs....he barely lost a round in weither fight. He retires as the Ring, undisputed Welterweight champ (WBC)...and after coming back and winning his return bout...it's more than fair to give him a high ranking spot...he's a former champion who is still undefeated. He did not lose his title he gave it away.
By the way the 2 little guys he fought were both top 10 pound for pound. Hatton was the 43-0 undisputed Jr Welterweight champ...Marquez was #2 pound for pound...Floyd's credentials when looks at objectively are amazing.

Floyd Mayweather has fought mind-blowing against Marquez, yet regrettably it became into envisioned as he's a 5-a million well known. in spite of the undeniable fact that I disagree that he's the no.2 p4p with the aid of fact Mosley have had a extra effective profession, specially against Welterweights. I additionally disagree that he's the 2d ideal Weltweight in the back of Mosley and above Coto. He would desire to be ranked no. 3. Cotto fought astonishing 10 welterweights that incorporates Margarito, Mosley, Clottey and Carlos Quintana. Mayweather purely fought Judah and Baldmor. Baldomir became into seen a journeyman and till in the present day many believed his victory over Judah became right into a fluke in view that he already had six defeats. Judah on the different hand became into KO'd by making use of Cotto. Quintana, Margarito, Clottey, and Mosley have been all defeated by making use of Cotto, different than Marga-cheato. Cotto is the undisputed welterweight champion in maximum folk's eyes! Mosley is 2d and Mayweather is third.

My answer would be this:
He beat the second best fighter on Planet Earth, Juan Manuel Marquez, this past weekend. Marquez, a great fighter in his own right, was ranked number 2. He called out Mayweather, said he wanted to do this for the Mexican people. Mayweather knocked him down and proceeded to make him miss most of the fight, hence him winning a 12 round decision and him taking the number 2 spot on the ring p4p ratings.

Because He's better than the majority of Welterweights even after a two year layoff. The rankings are composed based on skill not necessarily who you fight. Bernard Hopkins is the number one ranked Light Heavyweight and his last fight was with a Middleweight.

well right now they have him ranked as the number 1 p4p just because he beat an under sized marquez. i dont agree with that. i dont even know how marquez wound up being number 2. but if it came down to it floyd would have to be number 2 because he beat number 2 not number 1

You're absolutely right. The recent ratings is just plain B.S! I guess it's a ploy by the Ring owner, Oscar de la Hoya, in order to make the fight between No. 1 and No. 2.

Where do you think he should be ranked?
As you said, he was the considered by the majority to be the world's best pound for pound boxer. Undefeated, does not get hit much.
Star appeal in and out of the ring. Don't forget "Dancing with the Stars" that must count for something :)
I see your point though.

yeah. it is a setup by ring magazine which is owned by GBP. see that mosley is #3 p4p too (and of course #1 welterweight) while cotto drops below floyd. GBP wants floyd and mosley for a bout. in fact, it's rumored that GBP paid floyd's taxes, like an advance payment for a future fight (sounds like don king). cotto should be #1 in welterweight. he just defeated clottey. he also defeated mosley (although mosley defeated margarito).

Baldomir that's it! I totally forgot his name, been trying since Marquez fight to remember. Yeah I totally agree with you.
