Has a pitcher ever won the MVP award, and the Cy Young award in the same year?

I know the Cy is for the best pitcher, and the MVP is typically for the best all around player, but has one ever won both? Also just for kicks, has a pitcher ever won a Gold Glove?

Since the CYA was introduced in 1956, no pitcher has won a league MVP Award without also winning the CYA.

But there's little chance of a dual winner happening any time soon. The writers have repeatedly demonstrated in recent years that they WILL NOT vote for pitchers for the MVPs. Nitwits.

Here's those who have won both:

Don Newcombe, 1956 (NL MVP, sole MLB-wide CYA)

Sandy Koufax, 1963 (NL MVP, MLB CYA)

Bob Gibson, 1968 (NL -- the last pitcher to win the NL MVP)

    Denny McLain, 1968 (AL)

    Vida Blue, 1971 (AL)

    Rollie Fingers, 1981 (AL)

    Willie Hernandez, 1984 (AL)

Roger Clemens, 1986 (AL -- last SP to win an MVP)

    Dennis Eckersley, 1992 (AL)

Eck was the last, and that's approaching 20 years ago. Since then, we've witnessed utterly brilliant seasons from Maddux, Johnson, Clemens, and especially Martinez -- and none of them won (and Pedro should have, in 1999). One could even argue (futilely) for Greinke this season. Don't expect to see another P win MVP in the foreseeable future.

Yes, Denny McClain won both in 1968, while playing for the Detroit Tigers. He was a phenomenal pitcher that year.

Gold gloves are awarded for each position every year.

I know that Eckersley and Clemens did. And pitchers get a gold glove every year. Greg Maddux has won about 15 or so.

Yes it's happened several times.. Dennis Eckersley in 1992, Roger Clemens in 1986 and Willie Hernandez in 1984 are some of the more recent times it's happened.

Disagree, Chipmaker. Nobody's even close to Kershaw. If Miami had gotten into the playoffs, Stanton would've been considered; Cruz probably considered for Pitt., but they're value isn't even in the same ballpark, if you'll pardon the phrase.

The leading player is Whitey Ford.
