What would be the best thing to bring when meeting a mother?
My boyfriend is Russian and his mother is very picky when meeting new girlfriends. We have been dating for a while now, but I have been hesitant about meeting the family. Any suggestions on something to bring a Russian woman that is maybe a sign of respect??

My husband who knows a GOOD deal about Russia (he's fluent and has lived there) says ROSES AND CHOCOLATE!
He also said VODKA But I think you should give that a miss this time!

I think that is a nice gesture and that something like a small potted plant or cut flowers would be great.
Or, assorted teas in a little basket (if she is a tea drinker)
I would ask my boyfriend about their culture- I think that Russian folks like to provide the food- oh, and it's yummy! So, that is why I didn't suggest food items.

Would a bouquet of flowers be o.k.?
Or, you could ask your boyfriend about his mother's tastes and interests. Then, select a gift based on that. I know this is not much help.
Ideas: if she likes knick-knacks, find something small and sweet to put on her dresser or hutch. If she likes gardening, maybe some nice gardening gloves, or a gift from a gardening store.
I would stay away from gifts like perfume/cologne- since that is a personal choice.
