Is there a good program on CD for home schoolers?

I have tried several curriculums and would like to find something on CD for a 5th grader and a 9th grader.

MathTutorDVD.com is great for math. I bought it for my son and it really changed him. He learned so much from it. You can get the levels separately or bundled. Both can use it and if they sit there and watch and do the math, they will advance tremendously and at their own pace.

For the 9th grader now, go to CollegeBoard.com and start learning about AP, CLEP, and dual credit courses. Research it thoroughly and you will find that your 9th grader will have a great deal of opportunity to get college and high school credit at the same time for a low cost. Technically, they could actually get their Associates Degree before they graduate high school if you develop the right strategy. The local community college will also probably offer online courses for many of their core classes that are needed. Take advantage of this. My son is doing it and it's easy and will really save him alot of time and money in the future.

Finally, go to AcademicEarth.org where you will find a compilation of major universities like MIT, Stanford, and Yale offering free online video courses to the public in a wide range of areas. My son and I have both used it with great success. You don't get credit for it because it is free but it is a great source for the education part and may help the kid do great on an AP exam or CLEP to earn college credit.

You could look into Switched on Schoolhouse. It is an interactive curriculum for grades 3-12. Once you install the program on your computer, the set up wizard guides you to set up your school year, set up your students, and install and assign your subjects to your students. Once you assign the subjects to your student, the program schedule all the work for your students for the year. Then each day, the student logs into their school work, completes the lessons, quizzes, test, and projects for the day. The program grades 90% of the work for you. It also tracks all their work and the student grades, allowing you to print a variety of reports. You can have your student take the free math and language placement tests on line.
