I am teaching both of my kids how to cook, I start of with simple things...my oldest even makes supper sometimes or like on a Saturday he will make lunch..now he is asking about spices and when I use them etc.....I have 2 boys and I want to them to know how to cook for themselves so when they move out on their own that they can rely on themselves...

I did. When my two boys were 6 and 7 I started having them cook one meal each a week. I helped, but they did the majority of the meal.

We had a lot of hot dogs and mac-n-cheese for awhile....lol. Then they started looking in the cookbooks. They did a really good job.

Now they are both on their own and at least I know they won't be eating pizza and cereal every night.

Yes I taught all 4 of mine to cook. I let them start helping in the kitchen when they were very young, they are great cooks too. True believer in teaching your children how to provide for themselves. Only way to be raised.

I'm not a parent but have been banned from a few kitchens. When I cook even the dogs won't eat it and I tend to blow up ovens and stuff. I love it when things go BOOM!

From the age of 5 , my son had responsibility for one dinner a week. He had to plan the menu, shop with me for ingredients, and then make the dinner.

9 years later, I have no worries about him starving to death in his first apartment.

plus, it is a fun way to spend time with your children.
