Trying to connect two wired routers, help!?

I have Comcast cable running, and a Linksys wired router downstairs running cable to my upstairs bedroom and desktop computer. I have a second Dynex wired router(Model DX-3402), not hooked up yet. What I want to do is connect the cable wire running upstairs from Router 1 (Linksys) to the second router in my bedroom so that a laptop in the same room can use the cable connection as well.

I have little knowledge of switches, but I basically want to turn my Dynex wired router into a "switch". I have no idea how to disable DHCP which I got from googling endlessly on how to do this.

Can anyone help me?! Thanks!

There are three possible solutions..I will list them in order of best/simplest to most difficult:

1)Connect the laptop's Ethernet port in the bedroom directly to the Linksys wired router assuming the "cable" you're referring to is CAT5 or better or at least some decent form of UTP (Unshielded twisted Pair)

I don't see why you need any switch at all frankly.

2)If you can't change the Dynex router off of DHCP mode, then purchase a small switch, they cost $30 or less and use that in the bedroom.

3)If no Ethernet port exists, then purchase an "AP" - which is a wireless Access point and connect the wired port to the Linksys wired router. They cost $50 or less and will give you excellent mobility within the house.

Connect to it from the bedroom laptop.

4)If you only have coax cable and not UTP running upstairs, then my suggestion is either #3 above, or utilize your electric power connection with a pair of bridges to make this connection with something like the Netgear powerline extenders.

    Good luck.

optimum suited guy or lady to respond to your question is internet cafe. they have distinctive computers put in on a single dial up connection. although to your instantaneous information: i think of of you circulate with an exterior dial-up modem, via which you will connect 2 computers & use the two one in each and every of them simueltaneously. extra in case you opt to advance the surfing speed you circulate with installation a router. (yet for 2 laptop I dont think of of internet speed could perhaps be affected)
