Help with Math Question! Please!?

A kitchen floor needs to be tiled. The kitchen is 60 ft. long and 40 ft. wide. Tiles cost 5.99 a box. 12 tiles come in a box. Each tile is 10inL by 10inW. How much do you spend on tiles? How many tiles do you use?

Here is my work: I don't think it's right... please help

60ftX40ft=2400ft

2400*12= 28,800 inches

10*10= 100

28,800/100 = 288 boxes of tiles needed to tile the kitchen floor?

Update:

Thank you sooo much. I'm doing classes for college online. It's a lot harder doing math without a teacher being there to answer your questions when you need them.

It doesn't look right, let's walk through it

Firstly, the 2400 is square feet, not just feet.

And there are 12x12 or 144 square inches in a square foot, not 12

Do your conversion to inches first

    60 feet = 60*12 = 720 inches

    40 feet = 40*12 = 480 inches

the area of the floor is 720 x 480 or 345,600 square inches

each tile is 10 in x 10 in or 100 square inches

you need 345,600 / 100 or 3456 tiles for the floor

there are 12 tiles in a box, so you need 3456/12 or 288 boxes

You accidentally got the right answer because the factor of 12 which you didn't pick up in converting square feet to square inches was picked up when you divided to get to boxes (there is no "12 tiles to the box" shown in your calculation)

And then multiply 288 by 5.99 to get the cost of the tiles.
