Mars has a very thin atmosphere, there's enough to allow for dust storms and stuff but humans would still asphyxiate if they were on the surface without a pressure suit.

The atmosphere is mostly CO2 (96% roughly) with trace amounts of other gases, Namely Nitrogen (3% or so) and Argon (About 1%).

(those percentages are just off the top of my head, they are not entirely correct)

The pressure is about 1% that of Earth's atmospheric pressure, and the atmosphere goes further up into space due to Mars' small(ish) mass (and thus, smaller gravitational field)

    Hope this helped!

Google search "atmospheric composition of Mars". It is not random, and it's mostly CO2.
