Why is it possible to analyze the Ag content of an Ag alloy by percipitating it with Cl?

also.. Is there any other ion, besides chloride, that could be used in this procedure? If so, why would that ion work?

I think you mean a silver solution not a silver alloy (bar of metal made up of silver and other metal(s))

Anyhow. silver chloride is not very soluble in water solution so most of the silver will precipitate out. Chloride is cheap. Look up the solubility of other silver salts and see if you can find others as insoluble
