Updating a wii with homewbrew installed?
Ok, so i installed homebrew on my wii.... got a few applications and games to mess around with. I figured out there was an update for the wii that brings it to version 4.2... the problem is i learned if i update my wii with homebrew installed my wii will get bricked! (it will stop working for legal reasons) So i also figured out that you cant completley uninstall the homebrew channel. So now i'm either stuck with never updating my wii or updating it with a chance of it getting bricked? i bought 2 old games a while back (one nintendo 64 one and the other is a super nes game) and i hav some save games for games like the legend of zelda. now my question is how do i back these 2 old games and my saves onto an sd card, and then hav them work after i format my wii? like can i save them onto the sd card, format my wii, then will i be able to play the saves and 2 games again since my wiis number will be the same? or will it change? plz help and explain to me what to do to update my wii without it bricking.. its okay if i cant use my 2 games anymore but i would really like to keep all my games saves. THANKS :)

Nintendo says that 4.2 enhances the performance of the wii however its main target is to attack users with the HBC
Firmware Update 4.2 is designed to completely REMOVE the Channel, and all known installations regarding it, including the region-free player, the USB Loader, and even the DVD Player.
Here is some of the changes
Deletes most homebrew.
Now uses IOS70. (No Preloader due to that)
Wii Shop Channel updated. Use WiiSCU to update the shop channel.
Most of the IOS's have been updated or stubbed.
Updates your boot2 to boot2v4. (That means no downgrading of any IOS, and due to that, you can't revert back to your old System Menu. So BootMii as boot2 installed is removed.)
Affected Homebrew
Bannerbomb - Doesn't work.
BootMii - BootMii will cease to exist.
Homebrew Channel - It is uninstalled with this update.
cIOS - cIOS locations are stubed.
Preloader 0.29 - Not loaded any more due to IOS70 being used as the System Menu
It seems that the update is also adversely affecting Wii owners without Homebrew as well. Many users have reported their consoles completely bricking during the installation process of 4.2. Technically it is because if 'boot2', one of the wii's bootloaders, encounters any errors during its update, like a loss of internet connection for example, it completely freezes, and doesn't allow the menu to appear upon switch-on. When updating your wii I'd move your tv and wii closer to your router so that you will have a continuous strong signal and therefor will be less likely to brick during download.
After you have successfully updated the HBC should be totally gone however I know of some hackers that are already working on a bypass to enable you to run the HBC on 4.2.
Why exactly are u wanting to update you wii?!?!
There should be no need to format the wii if the bricking is entirely caused my loss of internet connection during download and therefore no need to backup your game/saves onto sd card
let me know how you get on

Personally I wouldn't update it. Then again, if the update is still 4.2 then I would go for it. Good luck hacking your Wii.

Use Waninkoko's 4.2 updater!
But BEFORE you do that, you have to use the latest Hackmii Installer...
Go to gbatemp.net and go under Wii Hacking for more info!

I don't know......you might not want to risk it, by bricking your wii........
