How soon before Chavez hijacks and co-opts the Olympic choice of Rio?
He will parade the choice of Rio for the summer Olympics as a victory over the US, and, thus, a vote for himself. He will attempt to wrap the cloak of Simon Bolivar around himself as "The Liberator." At the Olympics itself, if he is still in business, he will waltz in as though Rio was a suburb of Caracas. All this will not sit well with Brazil.

Though the president of Brazil is a socialist, he's not a big fan of Hugo Chavez. If, by the time of the Olympics, there will be similar governments in Brazil and Venezuela as there are now, the Brazilians won't let Venezuela hijack the Games.
