Hill 1996 / Button 2009?

Is Jenson Button's contract issues with Brawn reminding anyone else of a Champion-elect who had to look elsewhere for a drive the year after?

I always thought Williams made a mistake not keeping Damon for at least one more year, especially when Frentzen turned out to be sub-par... I just hope Brawn don't do the same thing... Jenson did such a noble thing in taking that voluntary pay-cut (I heard it was down from £10 Million to £1 Million!), allowing much of the team to keep their jobs... Isn't it only fair that he gets some sort of reward for both his loyalty and his Championship winning performance (almost)?

They're too good a fit to be split over money, and I hope that both parties can come to a compromise that will see the number one on the Brawn car and not elsewhere (ala Arrows 97)

I see things will settle where they should be. With Mercedes Benz new influx of funds in Brawn GP net year, I see less financial strain to compensate drivers.

From what I have been reading, it appears that Jenson will stay at Brawn GP, while Rubens should be the one to go. And they are talking of Rosberg, Kimi, Kubica, etc. as replacement. And those drivers are not cheap! Forget the 1 Million or even the 10 millions!

Aside from a new driver, most likely Rosberg (seemingly imposed by Mercedes) I see Jenson back with Brawn and getting a retribution commensurate to his accomplishments, especially if he gains the crown this year. A crown he deserves, and which as of today is 95% his. And Mercedes will be able to fund the salaries of two high profile drivers, one of whom is going to be Jenson Button. Will he command Alonsos's or Kimi's money? No, of course. But a deserved amount will be agreed upon between the parties.

And reading the previous answer from Elena, I agree that Ross Brawn is no Frank Williams. Ross, unlike Frank, is not famous for making a lot of decisional/managerial mistakes.

Maybe it could happen but Frank Williams and Patrick Head weren't fans of Damon unlike Ross to Button
