Big F1 nut... not in a cool way either... REALLY geeky likes-to-look-at-technical-stuff-even-though-he-knows-nothing-about-thus-making-it-boring-and-irrelevant kinda thing :P

  • Is Webber a real title candidate?

Ok so I'll start off by admitting that I'm not the biggest fan of Mark Webber. But I do think that the RBR he has been given has given him the chance to win the WDC. If Red Bull can maintain this advantage, do you see Webber eventually beating Vettel to the title, or is this current run of his just a purple patch?

I say this because I have seen a lot of hype around Mark Webber recently, something I didn't really see with Jenson Button's championship run last year, where he won a lot more races in a car that wasn't as dominant as the RBR. I just want to understand what the rest of the world thinks about Mark Webber and why there are Ferrari mutterings etc. around a guy that's only impressing really due to his rocket ship car.

  • Hill 1996 / Button 2009?

Is Jenson Button's contract issues with Brawn reminding anyone else of a Champion-elect who had to look elsewhere for a drive the year after?

I always thought Williams made a mistake not keeping Damon for at least one more year, especially when Frentzen turned out to be sub-par... I just hope Brawn don't do the same thing... Jenson did such a noble thing in taking that voluntary pay-cut (I heard it was down from £10 Million to £1 Million!), allowing much of the team to keep their jobs... Isn't it only fair that he gets some sort of reward for both his loyalty and his Championship winning performance (almost)?

They're too good a fit to be split over money, and I hope that both parties can come to a compromise that will see the number one on the Brawn car and not elsewhere (ala Arrows 97)

  • Would you put it past them!?!?

It seems that the FIA has found some recent evidence to suggest that Fernando Alonso benefitted from more than good fortune in Singapore last year. It seems that the conspiracies regarding Nelsinho dumping his car in the wall may acutally have some reason to them.

It always seems to be the Renault team, whether it's as Toleman, Benetton or Regie themselves. I wouldn't put this past them as we've seen first hand the lengths they went to win Schumi that 94 crown (Traction Control, Launch Control, the Fuel Rig Filter).... Seems that rather than McLaren, Renault seems to have a culture of cheating....

I think this may say a lot about Alonso too... if true, and if he had some involvement, it seems that he's even less sporting than Herr Schumacher himself. 2007's Blackmail fiasco at McLaren seemed to reflect worse on him than McLaren really, and this would be a further embarassment on his reputation.

I also wonder whether Nelson recently leaving the team has meant this information coming to light!?!

  • Who actually rates Kubica!?!?

Robert Kubica is always touted as one of the 'best' drivers on the grid, but so in my eyes I haven't really seen one jot of this actually being true...

In the time he has been Nick Heidfeld's teammate, Not-so-quick Nick has amassed 137 points (in the same car, AND with Rob only missing one GP @ Indy 07 where his sub Seb did score) and Kubica has only scored 122. Those are both admirable scores for such a time period (since mid-2006) and yes Nick should be expected to score more being the more experienced driver. BUT if Kubica was truly the star he is hailed as, should he not have overhauled Nick long ago? He may be driving a dog this year, but Heidfeld has dragged more results out of the car that Kubica, and that says a lot to me. He may be on the driver market now, but I don't see anyone taking him on as a lead driver, and certainly not at the big teams who are eyeing up more leader drivers (Rosberg/McLaren, Alonso/Ferrari)

Heidfeld is an average driver who has shown Kubica up to be nearly as average (one win-by-default separates them!)

  • Does this not vilify 'Mad' Max's points totally!?!?

Max was berated when he said that manufacturers, in particular Ferrari, were not the lifeblood of Formula 1 as they tend to come and go as they please.... Seems like he had it right after all!?! Hopefully the Sauber boys being the real racers they are will re-take over the team and carry on as they were, picking up the pieces after another of the 'vital' manufacturers decide that they can't justify poor results... and the fact that private teams like Brawn, RBR and Williams have wiped the floor with them this year.

People talk about the McLaren being a dog this year, but as it's now a winning car is the BMW really the worst car on the grid??? I think so...

  • Are 3-Day Tickets roaming on Fri and Sat?

Me and my Dad have 3-day Tickets for the Grand Prix this weekend, we're in Copse C and I was just wondering whether the tickets will be roaming for Friday and Saturday, so maybe we could get some good views at different parts of the circuit?? If not I'm not bothered coz it's our first Grand Prix and I'm bouncing off the walls already!!!

  • First Practice BBC 5Live Red Button coverage: Anthony Davidson and David Croft?

I thought that they covered the first practice very well, especially Davidson who although not in the same class as Brundle showed immense knowledge and unbiased opinion, with a good touch of humour to boot. He seemed to work really well with Crofty and I wouldn't mind having them on the full TV coverage (we've yet to hear the Legard/Brundle linkup but I'm sure it's as good and probs better!)

Also, just want to say how happy I am to see both my tips for this year Brawn and Williams at the top of the tables... Toyota seem a wee bit behind them but I expect Trulli to be up there with Rosberg, Button and Barrichello in qualifying... Nico looks excellent here this weekend as he always does!

  • Formula One Drivers' Helmets?

Don't you think they have got really boring and similar? I remember you used to be able to tell a driver by his helmet... and there were some classic designs...

Damon Hill - used his father's design, London Rowing Club, iconic image

Nelson Piquet - original and unique to him with the teardrop..

Ayrton Senna - he chose his yellow helmet to reflect his Brazilian nationality, and to warn drivers when they looked in their mirrors that Senna was coming!

Rubens Barrichello - bright and unmistakeably him

David Coulthard - brilliant take on the Scottish flag

Now they are just boring, especially Kovalainen and Raikkonen, who seemed to chose their latest ones on how well it merges into the car... if they both drove for the same team you would not tell them apart!! I like Nelson Piquet Jr's because its based on his dads, as is Nakajima's, I like Lewis modelling his on Senna's too.. but mostly they are fairly unremarkable

Comments?? and suggestions as to your favourite driver helmets...

  • New Honda-supported F1 team?

Seems Honda big-wigs had it in for Aguri-san after all...

    http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?s=865bf81f3b0...

engineer Ken Anderson is in talks to setup a Honda (USA)-supported F1 outift for next year

Honda could be supplying engines, gearboxes and even KERS units to them... makes you think why they couldn't even supply Super Aguri with parts for more than two races this year???

Anyway, aside from that issue... it would be good to have another team... as well as if Prodrive get their bums into gear... plus this Honda outfit want to give Taku a seat...

Who would you like to see drive for this team? I think Marco Andretti should watch this development closely, as should Bruno Senna...

I'm hoping they look like either the early 90's cars (ideally), or the 99 cars (very angular and compact)...

Any ideas and links etc. will be very gratefully received!!!

  • Ben Edwards for BBC??

Remember when he used to commentate on Eurosport's F1 coverage? He should be in line for a position with the BBC next year, alongside the fantastic Martin Brundle, and perhaps James Allen... He hasn't been that bad...

And what about Richard Hammond as presenter ala Steve Ryder?... coz I don't see him going back to the Beeb again. Either would be good, anyones better than bloody Jim Rosenthal!!

  • Adrian Sutil!?!?

To me, this guy is out of his depth as a Formula One driver. Where did all this hype come from pre-season and why oh why was he even considered for a McLaren seat by the press?? He clearly can't handle the car without TC, and is being shown up by Fisi.

Do you think he deserves a place in F1?
