Who actually rates Kubica!?!?
Robert Kubica is always touted as one of the 'best' drivers on the grid, but so in my eyes I haven't really seen one jot of this actually being true...
In the time he has been Nick Heidfeld's teammate, Not-so-quick Nick has amassed 137 points (in the same car, AND with Rob only missing one GP @ Indy 07 where his sub Seb did score) and Kubica has only scored 122. Those are both admirable scores for such a time period (since mid-2006) and yes Nick should be expected to score more being the more experienced driver. BUT if Kubica was truly the star he is hailed as, should he not have overhauled Nick long ago? He may be driving a dog this year, but Heidfeld has dragged more results out of the car that Kubica, and that says a lot to me. He may be on the driver market now, but I don't see anyone taking him on as a lead driver, and certainly not at the big teams who are eyeing up more leader drivers (Rosberg/McLaren, Alonso/Ferrari)
Heidfeld is an average driver who has shown Kubica up to be nearly as average (one win-by-default separates them!)
I'm not basing it purely on stats, it's Kubica's whole demeanour in the car, he may be more hungry than Nick but he certainly doesn't back it up with hard evidence... points.
It's also interesting that BMW rallied behind Nick last year when he was having problems rather than going all out for Rob's champ chances. Perhaps BMW wanted equality or maybe they don't see Kubica as a de facto no. 1 driver!?!
I know he's a talented driver, but aside from one 'golden' season that actually most drivers have in their career there's been no real evidence that this guy is a superstar. Vettel has proved it despite his youthful mistakes now and then, Hamilton has certainly proved it... but Kubica's development curve seems to be a lot shallower than these two guys at least!

Well, I think Kubica is better....by a nose!
Joking aside, I understand the stats, but Kubica has shown that spark that Nick hasn't shown. If you think of the races we have seen, and how they developed, and how both drivers attacked or defended during the course of the GPs, you'll understand what I am saying. You cannot only go by statistics (then look at Nick's 2nd place in Malaysia this season: He was just at the right place at the right time with the right tyres; very lucky but certainly not deserving to be there). It's a shame they are now both driving a dog of a car. It would be nice to see them both in equal competitive equipment and see how they compare. When you have the worst car in the field it's hard to make comparisons.
I know your stats go back a few years, but based upon what we have seen (not only the results), Kubica appears to be a more talented driver.
I think Heidfeld would be a great experienced driver for a new team. While I see Robert in a more competitive team, and I recall he was - among others - on Ferrari's shortlist (Alonso, Vettel and Kubica). Of course these were long-term plans especially because Vettel and Kubica were on long term contracts then, but if someone made the effort to pencil Kubica in there, he must have some extra added value.

I think Kubica is quicker over one lap, and he definitely has more "hunger", which explains some of his better overtaking moves.
However I think that Heidfeld is the better bet to get the most out of a car on a regular basis, and he doesn't make nearly as many mistakes. Heidfeld is also better at working through problems with the car. He appears to think more about what is happening and adapts himself. Kubica tends to try and drive around any trouble without changing his style, and that can go spectacularly wrong.
Comparing Kubica to Vettel and Hamilton is a bit unfair, in that he's never had a car which could win a race through being fastest; I still don't think he's at their level, just that the comparison is unfair.
As a team owner I would want Heidfeld, not Kubica.

BMW will call Vettel a 'championship wrecker' because they probably thought that they could win the championship because they were going to be 3rd in Australia.
BMW are out at the end of the season and I hope that if Kubica and Heidfeld go to one of the new teams they have a fast car.
I have always wondered if BMW like Heidfeld more and that is why Kubica only has 122 points... I don't know.

stats don't amount to much
if you really want to dig down deep you would have to take those points and remove any gained when the other was involved in a no fault accident or a mechanical failure, and you would also need to get no point races where both drivers finished see who finished higher than the other
the fact is at one point last year kubica was leading the points race, and in "not so quick nicks" longer and so more experienced career that has never happened
Source(s): just my opinion btw good to see you back - JimBobLv 61 decade ago
Your analysis is shocking.
People fail to realize that in F1 the car makes a huge difference! The only driver you can truly compare with is the teammate, at least you think they have the same equipment.
People miss this point when analyzing Hamilton, he dominated a two time World Champion, and they failed to give him the credit he earned on the track!
Back to your point. The BMW team has given up and is quitting, after the shameful season they've had maybe they should.

:O wow
so Nick is better than Robert!
I think Nick is much more consistent, as he has scored quite a few podiums over the last few seasons.
It's just because Robert got that win in Canado '08 that he gets seen as the better driver, but that was only given to him through the bad luck of others.
I think they will both probably end up in one of the new teams, but not a front running team.
Mid-field is probably the best they can hope for :/

Nyer!!
Stats are one thing but darn, Kubica seems the hungrier of the two. Heidfeld is so laid back he rivals Kimi. He needs a good car and a fair shot.

I rate him very highly actually. To rate him poorly for what he's done at BMW is simply unfair on the man. After all, it is BMW pulling out and going home , leaving KUBICA looking bad.

I have never rated either driver.
they both lack 'magic' and flair.
It's bizarre-I asked a question which drivers would be walking off into the sunset and then the next day - 'heavans to Betsey', it's these two.
