Is Webber a real title candidate?
Ok so I'll start off by admitting that I'm not the biggest fan of Mark Webber. But I do think that the RBR he has been given has given him the chance to win the WDC. If Red Bull can maintain this advantage, do you see Webber eventually beating Vettel to the title, or is this current run of his just a purple patch?
I say this because I have seen a lot of hype around Mark Webber recently, something I didn't really see with Jenson Button's championship run last year, where he won a lot more races in a car that wasn't as dominant as the RBR. I just want to understand what the rest of the world thinks about Mark Webber and why there are Ferrari mutterings etc. around a guy that's only impressing really due to his rocket ship car.
I just don't see him as one of the best drivers on the grid, and I always had that inkling from Button that he was actually a World Champ in waiting.
Both Vettel and Webber have been given a car that flatters them to be honest, and let's them get away with not being consistent every lap, because the car will be fast enough anyway. Saying that they are both good qualifiers, regardless of the car, and in this era of aero development, that makes probably the key difference.
Good on him if he does become WDC, because he got into that Red Bull and drove it quickly, even if some others might have drove it quicker given the chance!

I've never really rated him... at all. He's just never seemed like the kinda guy I could imagine putting it on pole and banging it round the track, lap after lap, without making a mistake. However, this opinion of mine could quite easily have been formed due to a string of sub-standard cars. But all that proves is that he's a good driver... in a very good car. I don't think he's the kind of driver who takes the crazy chances. He's a thinking driver, more like Button than say, Hamilton who can grab an opportunity and wring it's neck. He can put in a very nice race from pole, but he's not the kind of driver I imagine as being the best at racing from far down the grid to a win. I don't know whether my thoughts are statically correct, and if I wasn't so damn tired I'd work it out, but that's just my opinion. He's the kind of driver who will do well if all goes right for him, but if there's one little setback he's finished for the rest of the weekend.
I think the Webber hype is mainly because he is managing to be Sebastian relatively consistently, which is an achievement, but when Button was beating Barrichello it was kinda predictable. Everybody, I think, had written off Webber as the 'Number 2' at that team, and I think he's blown a few people's minds with his recent performance.
Although, whether he can continue with this strong form remains to be seen. Especially with the Lotus upgrade package coming soon! He could be in real trouble!
Source(s): No Idea why I just ripped Lotus, I love those guys :/ Plus, on the Webber at Ferrari thing, I can see it as a possibility for him to driver alongside Alonso if Felipe's pace doesn't pick up consistently. Webber might go for it, because I think this could well be his last chance at the championship, because Vettel will only get stronger. Plus, I think that Ferrari taking on a driver like Webber makes sense, because I can see Alonso and Felipe coming to blows very soon. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I thought he was a real title candidate until I found out that Vettel has been racing with a damaged Chassis for the last two rounds. I honestly don't know if Webber can beat Vettel over an entire season. I think Vettel is a really special driver. I think a lot of the hype is because he has beaten a very good team mate the last two rounds. Last year with Jenson everybody felt that Rubens was a little over the hill (a sentiment that I don't entirely agree with). I know it is a cop out but I'm waiting to see Vettel in a new chassis before I form a solid opinion.
The Ferrari mutterings make sense in my opinion. He has shown that he can control a race and he doesn't really make big mistakes that often. He crashed into Hamilton in Melbourne however off the top of my head I can't remember the last time other than that when he binned a car without some form of mechanical failure. And he is pretty quick. He has put his car on the front row almost every round this year in qualifying. I don't think he has the potential to be a consistent world beater however I do think he is capable supplying a stable second driver who doesn't upset the team dynamic, something you can't really say about many past and present drivers (see Hamilton,Alonso,Schumacher, Montoya etc). If I had Alonso as my first driver I wouldn't hesitate to pick up Webber.

Wait a minute, the Brawn of the first half of 2009 was meaner than the 2010 RBR. Six wins in the first seven races. By this time last year, it was almost as if the WDC was decided. This season, it was Webber's pole positions and back to back wins that made it interesting. He is no longer the crash magnet, he is the championship leader and despite what others say about Alonso and Vetttel, he is a serious contender for this years title. I would say Button got incredibly lucky in 2009 while Webber had to work for it in 2010. The hype is more justifiable than considering Hamilton or Alonso as the title contender.
As for Ferrari, if they want to hire an aging driver to partner Alonso, then it has "No:2" written all over it. Webber seems to be the sort who would rather reign in hell than serve in paradise.
Towards the end of the 2010 season the record for the youngest WDC will be broken.

He's tied for first, so yes, he's a real candidate.
In fact, looking back at the last 20 years in F1 and the performance of eventual world champions through the first 6 races, he would be the odds on favorite (with Alonso coming in second by virtue of how often the winner of the first race wins the championship).
However, the fact that Vettel seems the better of the pair at RBR and that despite some fairly major problems is still right up there at the front, Webber will still be facing an uphill battle.
Webber is a good driver, although even as good as he's going, still seems short of being one of the elite drivers of the sport. But a very good driver in a very good car with the right amount of confidence at the right time... yes, he's a real title candidate and seems certain to at least be in the mix for the championship until near the end.

Helmut Marko said that, realistically, the only two drivers they fear are Alonso and Hamilton. I think most punters would agree. Similarly, if I was a betting man, I would back Vettel over Webber. Younger, possibly more talented, still improving, and had a damaged chassis.
Webber to Ferrari mutterings - I don't really understand. First of all, Webber - a nice guy, but he is fiercely competitive and has enough self respect to despise the deal to play second fiddle in exchange for big money and an opportunity to drive for the Scuderia. Second, I'm sure Ferrari would try their hardest to pinch drivers like Kubica and Vettel. I don't think Webber is their #1 draft pick. He is probably the fall back option if things don't work out.

Of course. If there is to be change, America must stop electing candidates who are beholden to the Council on Foreign Relations and the multinational corporations and wealthy global elites behind it. Obama, Clinton & McCain are CFR candidates. Ron Paul is not. There cannot be real change while we continue to allow the government to be hijacked the CFR and its globalist cronies. Ron Paul's proposal to govern by the Constitution will put and end to that. With a smaller government, and with more power at the LOCAL level as prescribed by the Founding Fathers, there will be little opportunity for the globalists to hijack the government. Change cannot happen until the power is wrestled away from the CFR and the globalists. Change will happen when the PEOPLE have the power, which is what Ron Paul's platform will bring.

He has the confidence of winning and hasn't made mistakes, he is in the right car, so, why not?
