Curing slow/no web page connection?
When I try to get into Internet Explorer on my Compaq (2 GB RAM, Comcast Cable modem), it either loads the home page very slowly or not at all; the green progress bar sometimes doesn't move for minutes or at all. I've tried changing the home page from Comcast to Yahoo to Google, with no difference, but was able to log on to the Macafee web page, and browse from there. I had a "visit" from the GreenAV virus a few days ago, but think I stopped it before it got in. My Macafee is up to date and I've run a disk cleaner and defrag; any ideas on what's holding up the logon? IE finds the home page OK, but it won't download. Could the cable modem be bad, or is my hard drive going?

get a copy of Malwarebytes anti-malware and run a quick scan. That GreenAV may have gotten to you.
You may even try hijackThis! and see if anything has been hijacked.

I would check IE settings if there is a proxy server set up. Green AV and alike set a proxy server in IE/Firefox to control what and how you view websites. Also, check your hosts file, it should be nearly empty.
If it is not the case, you need to scan with anti-spyware, as that would mean there is a trojan/rootkit in your internet driver chain.
