I hear a voice in my head.?

All day, I hear this voice in my head, talking. Sometimes it's no louder then a whisper, and sometimes I can clearly hear what it's saying, like it's giving me a running comment on what I'm doing. At first it wasn't a huge problem, just a whisper now and again, but lately it's been constant. Sometimes it makes jokes, and the part that scared me was that I'll laugh at them, and the people around me ask me what's so funny, and I'll realize I'm laughing at a joke in my head. Sometimes He (It's a male voice) will help me solve especially difficult problems at school, but sometimes it will sabotage me on purpose. I don't know what to do, should I see a doctor???

Update:

PeaceLover, I'm not a moron, but thanks.

There's not a really good answer to this, but I'll tell you how I see it.

First off, if you feel like you are loosing it, your life is being torn apart, or you are going to do something bad for you or other people, then definitely go to a doctor.

However, there is more to my answer, and I'm speaking as someone who is one of many inside of this head, if that makes any sense to you. If not, well, I kinda know what you're talking about, at least experience-wise. And my life is quite 'normal', at least from the outside. You can function just fine with a little work.

There are certain things that doctors can't make go away. If the voice in your head is 'another person', a totally seperate entity, that has been there for a while and now you are just becoming able to talk to it, its not likely that the doctor can really help you much, and therapy may actually make it worse. (yes, there is talk of combining 'personalities', but the success rate is just about nil) This is NOT the same thing as schizophrenia, the main difference being that schizophrenics perceive the voice(s) as coming from somewhere outside, while people who are borderline or have multiple personalities know the voices are coming from inside, multiple people living in the same body.

You may want to sit down and lay out some ground rules as far as the way he behaves goes, explain that his talking all the time is causing problems. When you feel he's sabotaging you on purpose, ask why he's doing it. Attempting to ignore him won't do any good.

There is also always the possibility that you have attracted some creature from another plane. You could try getting blessed.

Most people do have something like this at night. It's called hypnic hallucinations and happens when a person is in between sleep stages or in between being awake and asleep. Some people even have visual hallucinations at night, so don't worry if youre just hearing things. It's especially normal to hear things that you already heard earlier in the day because your brain just replays the events of the day while youre falling asleep. You shouldn't have to see a psychiatrist unless you're hearing voices during the day as well.

Yes. I am kind of baffled. Definitely see a doctor, a therapist. Be honest, and perhaps you can figure it out. For now, try to ignore it. Whenever you hear the voice coming, focus on something (like music, a book, etc.)

    Good luck..

pray the "voice" doesn't play Enter Sandman by Metallica

seriously, I would develop some goals and, or, a plan of deliberate action/s and follow the plan as best I could

many street people seem to have similar problems

also you might want to start interacting with people more, or a different group if you do interact with people already

If i were you, i would defiantly see a psychiatrist or psychologist because it sounds like you have a serious problem, and maybe even need to be put on some type of medication to get rid of the voices.

Stand up, pick up the phone, and call a psychologist. Chances are, you have schizophrenia. There are medications that can help but you need to talk to someone right away. It's only going to get worse if you don't tell anyone.

Yes, you should see a doctor. That is a big sign of schizophrenia, and they have medication for it.

Go soon, sometimes people hear voices telling them to do awful things...and they do them.

It might be nothing, but it sounds like schizofrenia. If the voice starts telling you to do stuff then go see a doctor fast
