will updating itunes delete my songs?

on my itunes i have song that were downloaded fron itunes and limewire and some old cds that i no longer have..does anyone know if i update my itunes will i loose any of my songs??

Should i just stop being lazy back my songs up and then update itunes just in case??

    Check where your music is stored, it's most likely in your music file, therefore, when you update iTunes, you're merely updating the software used to play the songs, not the folder that holds your songs.

    You will not lose any music if you update iTunes. Because iTunes does not store songs, it just plays them.

    No, iTunes will not delete your songs, but it might move them to a different folder on your hard drive. However, there are plenty of things that could delete your songs, such as a hard drive crash. For that reason you should back up your songs.

    And, if you're a Mac user, get an external hard drive and let Time Machine do the work for you.
