Planning a trip to Texas, any suggestions?

I'm planning a trip to Texas for next year. I'm not sure where I'd like to go in Texas, however we'd like to stay on a nice horse ranch, where we can do lots of activities. Any suggestions? Any secrets for cheap flights from Toronto? Any good ranches we can stay at? (And do they have a website I can view?)

You do know that most of us Texans live in cities not too different than Toronto, right?

Try the area around Bandera, TX for dude ranches. It's the self-proclaimed cowboy capital of Texas. It's known as the Texas Hill Country.

Just a note, the Hill Country has been particularly hard hit by a drought this year and the rural parts of the Hill Country have also been hard hit by the recession. Springtime would be when I would suggest visiting. The hills will be green, the bluebonnets and wildflowers blooming and if you're lucky you'll see plenty of fawns.

Somebody already suggested the Texas Travel Guide which is excellent. Texas Highways magazine has a good web site for looking up places to go.

Send for this information--tour guide maps lodging.

Texas is a huge, huge state. There's so much to see and do, I wouldnt know where to begin.

From this site, you can click on dfferent cities and see the attractions.

For a horse ranch, you could Google " Texas horse ranch vacation" and see what comes up. Frankly, I wouldnt want to spend a week in Texas and just stay on a ranch. There's sooo much to see there.

I spent a non stop week in Dallas, recently. I was up doing from morning til late at night.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Dallas!!!!! See the 6th floor museum (The former book depository that Pres Kennedy was shot from) See the grassy knoll, there are even markers in the street to show where exactly where he was when he was shot!. See the holacost museum, there is a revolving restaurant on the top of a skyscraper, the zoo, and even more! Its my hometown and I love it!
