Hi. I finished my Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering(B.E - C.S.E)?
this year [2005- 2009] in Chennai,TamilNadu ,India. The college is under Anna University affiliation. Myself and very close friends got selected in Wipro during on-campus interview. Myself and my friends have 82% aggregate marks. Wipro has sent us the appointment letter and learning kit etc. Wipro will be giving the date of joining during january 2010. Now two of my friends have written GRE and Toefel and scored best marks. They have applied for Universities in US and its confirmed that they are going for higher studies. I didnt write GRE coz first of all i dont have interest in higher studies and secondly i come from a lower middle class family. My dad has become old and he been working for a very long time. Its time for me take care of my parents. They have struggled a lot to make me complete my BE. OK now my question is where do my friends go and where do i go? What difference will it make in our career? I dont have any other go. I have to wait for Wipro. I dont know when there are gonna call me since the IT Industry has been heavily by this economic downturn. I wanna know what happens to them and me? And i wanna know what should i do to start and have a very good career. I think this can best answered by people who are in IT sector because u might have met people who have different academic qualification. That's why am posting it here. Thank you.

College has ended. This is where you and your friends go your separate ways. Maturity is what is required to realise and ACCEPT that fact.
Stop comparing yourselves with your friends. Tomorrow one of your friends might fall in love or decide to marry. That doesn't mean the other friend, or you for that matter, should also fall in love or get married, simply so that you can say you three did everything together.
And you re not the only one who's yet to receive his/her joining date after getting selected by a major company.
You just completed a four year course from one of the best technical universities in India. Instead of worrying about when you will be called up to join, I suggest you relax for a while so that when you eventually get called up, you will be able to join with a fresh minsdet. This will enable you to be more productive at work and you will be able to have a fruitful career. All the best.
In the meantime, you could also look at joining for technology certification courses such as CISCO, RedHat, Microsoft to update yourselves with the technologies currently in use by the industry, which will stand you in very good stead later on. Sure, Wipro will train you before absorbing you, but if you know something about technology (and I'm not talking about the computer basics which you learnt as part of your engineering curriculum - there is a whole world of a difference between theory and practice), it might give you an advantage when you eventually join later on. Even otherwise, getting yourselves certified has other advantages too. You could even join a software testing course, say the one offered by STC, that might open up other employment opportunities.
If your command over the English language is good, you could also join a BPO in a technical support position. Sounds like a retrograde step to someone who just graduated out of college, I know (you definitely didn't study engineering to join a BPO), but keep in mind that this is only temporary till you join Wipro. Might earn you some work experience(introduces you to group dynamics and office politics which will equip you better for a corporate career) and some money to take care of immediate expenses, if cash flows are a problem. Heard even Wipro BPO is hiring. Might give you an insight into Wipro's work culture, should you decide to join. Good luck.

hi!! i m doing my B.tech and m in final year of mech. the thing is you have got a very high aggregate. since you have not given any exam for higher studies, it doesnt matter. in these months of sept-dec many companies give out their advertisements for engineers. they take a simple all India level aptitude and technical test and then if you are selected you are called for an interview.
according to your percentage you are a high scorer so search for such advertisements. like jindal, tcs, accenture, etc. in the mean time learn some new language linux, etc or some course and you can work in Niit or aptech for the while and wait for wipro
