What do you consider short and long term? Some Short term effects are the physical and psychological damage, loss of economic activities. Long term effects (geologically speaking) - it's too early to tell. Possible effects is the relief of underground pressure from this quake may have prevented or just postponed a really BIG quake.
Long term effects (human timewise) can be economic recovery may take many years, psychological effects on humans will be felt for the rest of the victims lives (an example: 39 years after I was in an 8.2 quake, I still sleep with my clothes within arms grasp, between my bed and the door.)

Lomg Term: Their economy will drop big time because of the amount destuction. No one will visit for vaccation and no one will be able to afford anything. Short Term Effect: Pehaps that they must re-build everything. It seems every year there is a disaster.

Hey,
Long Term effects will be like - loss of life, buildings damaged, towns destroyed, alot of work to be done to prevent it happening again e.g. ermm those things the have to signal when an earthquake is coming (look it up in ur notes), erm cost of repair maybe
Short term effects will be like - fallen trees, cars washed away, loss of power/electricity for x hrs
Hope this has helped :)
