Thelonious Monk, and jazz fans in general. Would you like to hear Monk on his Birthday (Oct... 10)?

For the entire 24 hours of Monk's birthday, the radio station WKCR is airing their annual Monk Birthday Broadcast.

It will be all things Monk. Music, interviews, commentary on the man. As always on WKCR, commercial free, and no silly "radio personality" djs to deal with. Just pure dedication to the music.

NOTE- WKCR rarely does fund raising on air (unlike most stations). When they ask for money, they truly need it. If you become a regular listener, than you really should help support the station.

The djs are volunteers. Your not paying for their fancy cars. Your just helping them to spin the good stuff, for anyone listening. thanks.

WKCR has the first ever known recordings of Monk, which are not available anywhere, except the WKCR library.

Got a favorite song and/or album?

Who was your favorite sax player in Monk's bands?

Thanks for the heads up. I should be able to listen to some of it although I work more than twelve hours tomorrow....

"Brilliant Corners" is my favorite song on my favorite album. Though less challenging, the album where he plays all Ellington tunes is also a favorite.

Sonny Rollins and Coltrane are really hard to choose between so I won't...
