I've used clover mix hays before. Clover is a legume just like alfalfa, and provides some of the same nutritional benefits. The risk with clover in hay is its tendency to harbor fungi that are toxic to horses. If it has been thoroughly dried before baled, and is stored properly in a dry structure with good ventilation, it should be fine.
Pregnant and lactating mares are the only horses that should not be fed tall fescue hay because of the high incidence of endophyte growth in tall fescue.

What are the two classes of hays fed to horses?
Answer:
* grasses such as orchard grass, timothy, fescue
* legumes such as clover and alfalfa
I think it depends on the amount you are feeding if there is more clover than fescue or if the fescue has high endophyte levels there will probably be problems you might call your vet and ask to be sure
