Need help configuring a router?
The ultimate goal is to connect my PS3 to the internet, but the school uses a network that runs DHCP, and requires a username/password to access it. the page that contains the login section is only accessible by computer, but i've been told that logging into a computer that is connected through a router will assign the router an IP address that it holds onto, allowing other connections to be made through the various ports without having to repeat the login process...
my problem is that i can't seem to get ANY kind of connection when i try to go through the router, so i can't get to the page where i could log in. i dont have the software disk that came with the router (a linksys BEFSR41 v.2) if one came at all, but i've been to the linksys site and downloaded the latest firmware.
im not a technophile, but i do understand how to enter the address of the router to get to the router settings. i also know that none of the equipment im using (router, powercord, cables) is broken/malfunctioning. im pretty sure the only thing keeping me from making everything work is configuring the router and my computer to work together...could be wrong, but any help would be nice

Ok its late but ill go ahead and just inform you of this, Usually when you first setup a router expescially from Linksys its almost always going to be setup to give out addresses automatically via a DHCP program on the router. Now on most routers the login address is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Now if that is now working when you plug the computer into the router and type one of those into the browser I would check and make sure the lights on the router are coming on saying it has a device connected to port what ever....
Then if thats fine go ahead and pull up command prompt, you can do this by going to start, run, type in cmd
now when you have command prompt up type in ipconfig
it should come up with IP settings and you should see a default gateway and that will be your router's IP address so try that in a browser.
Now if your not getting a default gateway or getting the IP address of 169.254.x.x then your not able to pull a IP address from the router.
I would also check to make sure your TCP/IP connections on your computer are set to pull a IP address Automatically.
Now in the case all this is right and you cannot connect the the router still I would reset the router, their should be a hole in the back of the router that is a reset button kinda like a pen hole. Hit that and it should go back to defaults of giving out a ip address and the normal ip addresses it uses like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
Sorry if some makes sense and some dosent
Hope it helps you overall. Good luck!
