CDMA and GSM does not indicate smart phone. GSM and CDMA are 2 different types of technology that carriers use. It's basically thier network for the lack of a long drawn out explaination. Basically here is the major carriers and what they use. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA, ATT and Tmobile use GSM. It has nothing to do with what makes it a smart or dumb phone. The term smart phone comes from the different abilities the phone possesses over other phones. And another thing ALL phones have an IMEI number. That allows the carrier to identify what kind of phone it is, basically its an identity number and each phone has its own personal number, and its used for both GSM and CDMA phones.

    Hey Neha,

Let me take you through this in a simple manner :-

GSM / CDMA are different types of networks. GSM is what Airtel, Vodaphone ect operates on where as CDMA is reliance , Tata Docomo etc. They basically are different technology used by Cellular operators .

As for a Smart Phone, think it as a computer *** a phone, there are different types of smart phones available in the market today. By calling it a smart phone, it basically means that apart from voice calls you can also communicate via Emails, browse the internet, work/create word, excel sheets and a lot more. In general, if you had a Smartphone, then when outside your computer/Office/Home, you can still do the same stuff as you would on your comp. You can install different software in the phone depending on your needs. Hope this helps

    CDMA

A smartphone is a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities, often with PC-like functionality (PC-mobile handset convergence). There is no industry standard definition of a smartphone. For some, a smartphone is a phone that runs complete operating system software providing a standardized interface and platform for application developers. For others, a smartphone is simply a phone with advanced features like e-mail, Internet and e-book reader capabilities, and/or a built-in full keyboard or external USB keyboard and VGA connector. In other words, it is a miniature computer that has phone capability.

    Smart Phone:

Smart phone is basically your usual fone with a couple of add ups. Comparable to palm tops, very convenient.

and yea, they do come with an IMEI number aswell, if at al you are talking about Chinese products, they might not carry any identification number.

    GSM or CDMA:

Technologies, basically we consumers need not worry about either of them.

Smartphone works with both the technologies.

I am an aspiring pilot to, please help :)
