Glue on/plastic horseshoes?
Further to my other question (Stevie's foot has fallen off...) can anyone give me any advice about plastic glue on horseshoes? I'm based in the UK so costings etc and brand suggestions would be good.
I fail to see how the farrier will nail a shoe on so I think that for now at least, glue on shoes are going to have to be the way to go. How much more expensive are they than "normal shoes" and can you get them in egg bars?
he has a pair of Old Mac G2s and he is wearing one at the minute until my farrier gets out, but they can only be worn for 12 hours tops and he needs the support of the shoe 24/7

I am not sure about the UK but in the US you can have a farrier (must be trained in this...) to use fiberglass to reinforce the hoof. They glue on the shoe then use a fiberglass type of wrap to wrap the whole hoof to protect it and to hold on the shoe so the hoof has time to grow. Its not cheap and you will need to find someone that has done this before. I have a friend that had to do this and It worked out great for her, she could still show the horse, just used hoof black on all the hoofs to camouflage the fiberglass. If you need any more info I could probably give you her email address, she could explain the process to you better but not where you could find it in the UK..
Source(s): Edit: Also get him on a really really good hoof supplement with bioten. This will make a big difference and will help to grow out strong new hoof growth quickly. This stuff really works wonders. - foxhunter1949Lv 71 decade ago
I cannot tell you how much they will cost as it depends on what your farrier charges too!
They are better than they were in that the glues have improved a lot.
I had to have a foal shod earlier this year and the shoes had to be removed after a week due to the foot growing so fast. I really took some effort from the farrier to get them off!
I am sure you can get them in heart bars.

Proving evolution doesn't exist doesn't prove intelligent design exists. One doesn't disprove the other because they are both so complex and opposite. But I have two words for the Horseshoe crab... adaptive evolution. It may have reached it's final evolutionary phase. We are not going to see humans evolve in a split second breeding, it takes a several many years plus the environment needs to constantly change (metaphorically speaking). If the horse shoe crab was bred for several years under harsh weather conditions it may evolve, but trying to make something evolve in the same environment it has lived its entire life wont.

Get him easy boots. They can be tough to get on but they stay on and are well worth the price for a horse like yours. His hoof looks like no shoe will be able to go on so a glue on would probably come off the first day.
For now if you can I get a foam half pad. Lay it on the ground and put his hoof on it, outline the hoof, and cut the shape out. Put the cut out on the sole of his hoof, and duct tape it many many times around.
