Going into the Navy after home school?
My daughter is graduating this year. We just met with her recruiter and he believes she has to have an "official" transcript from the county because of new rules the Navy came out with in August. Does anyone know anything about this? She is already enrolled in college and will have close to an AA when she graduates high school this year. She also scored a 77 on the ASVAB without preparation. She is retaking for a higher grade.
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW, please do not answer. I am just looking for information while I wait for Monday when I will be speaking to the school to enroll her if necessary.

He is wrong. Homeschool graduates are suppose to be automatically accepted as tier II enlistments. As of June 1 2007 the US military started a 4 yr program that would qualify homeschoolers as tier 1 if they scored a 50 or higher on the AFTQ

Unfortunately, efforts of homeschool activists have convinced the military that recruits will have a homeschool diploma. From the Marine (part of the Navy) recruitment manual:
****
“A high school diploma or certificate, typically awarded by a local, state or national accredited Home School Association, based upon certification of a parent or guardian that an individual competed his/her secondary education at home...The Home School Legal Defense Association has provided guidance to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense…All home school diploma graduates must complete the last academic year of education in a home school environment.” (emphasis added). (U.S. Marines, Military Personnel Procurement Manual, Volume 2 Enlisted Procurement, Section C12, Tier H1, “Home School Diploma.)
Note the requirement of a ‘Home School Diploma” by the Marine Corps. They are requiring a non-accredited diploma as part of the enlistment process. One that is “typically awarded by a local, state or national accredited home school association.” (emphasis added)

I was researching something else when I stumbled across all this 'diploma' silliness and I put it all together here:

As far as a public school diploma, it's their military, they can require whatever they want. Homeschooled students have a much higher attrition rate and it makes no sense to spend money training them, when they just wash out at a much higher rate. I hope your daughter is the exception to the study and finds the rewarding career she wants.
good luck.
