In the future will publishers stop printing books and only use ebooks?

I love books and hate the thought that ebooks will replace the little paper objects i love.

I hope not. I have an e-Book reader, but I only use it when I can't get an actual copy of a book. The difference between reading from a screen and feeling the actual pages in your hand is really noticeable. All things considered, though, I don't think that they will stop printing books completely. Most of the adults I know, especially the older ones, hate the idea of reading from a little electronic device. These are the people who make up most of the target market of the publishers. And if publishers stop printing books altogether, these people will stop buying, and sales will go down, which is something they definitely don't want. So I doubt that e-books will replace printed books any time in the near future.

I very much doubt that would ever happen. People still buy printed books, there are no technical problems with them, and not everyone in the world has a computer or one of those handheld ebook readers. It's also bad for your eyes to stare at a computer screen for hours on end.

I used to work for a publisher and I can tell you the short answer is no. The longer answer is that the biggest ebook market is not in trade publishing (fiction, non-fiction, etc), which I suspect is what you care about, but reference, education, academic, professional, etc. Ebooks represent a tiny proportion of the trade market.

  • I'm with you. I love books and I really don't think the publishers will stop printing them. A lot of people prefer reading a book as opposed to reading online.

    it certainly seems that way!!!

as for what will happen to the books, who knows? some will probably be put up in museums or burned or...maybe they will think of a new way to process the paper and make useful stuff out of it

it's best not to think of it that way. books are still being printed and if that happens it will be a LONG way off in the future (:

NEVER books are the best way to tell a story and they are classic, the only reason they would do this would be because all the trees are cut down.

which will allmost certinaly never happen
