Why is Satan associated with darkness?

Pondered this when some gimp or another was talking about 'Satanists hiding in the shadows, come into the light' earlier. Not that I'm a satanist, mind, but I was under the understanding that Satan was originally Samael, known as Lucifer, the Morning Star, bringer of light.

So what happened there? Career change? Mid-life crisis?

Satan is associated with darkness for a number of reasons: (1) Satan's dominion is darkness (Acts 26:18; Ephesians 6:12; Revelation 16:10); (2) the opposite of the light of God is darkness; (3) his motives are destructive and therefore associated with burning and destruction; and (4) Jude 1:6 tells us Satan's angels are "kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day" and for whom, " the blackest darkness has been reserved forever" (Jude 1:13).

Due to Satan's pride he wanted to be like God and sit on the Holy Mountain and be worshiped by others. Many angels joined Satan in his rebellion against God, and a war in heaven resulted (2 Peter 2:4; 1 John 3:8; Jude 6, 7; Revelation 12:7-9). Satan and his angels lost the battle and were cast out of heaven and down unto the earth (Isaiah 14:15; Ezekiel 28:16; Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:7-12). And since Adam was created spiritual warfare has existed between the powers of darkness and light (Daniel 10:13, 21; Ephesians 6:11-17).

    Stupidity.

Satan (or Lucifer as he was known in heaven) deliberately set up a rebellion against God because of his rage and jealousy toward Jesus' authorative position under God (which he thought he deserved). God had Michael the Archangel cast out Lucifer from heaven "into the darkness", eventually landing on the earth. The 'bringer of light' became the 'adversary' because of his sin - which is also associated with darkness. Since Satan was so consumed with his anger, he decided to deceive God's creation of humans. We have paid the price for it since the very beginning.

Satan likes to hide the truth from man (Secrets), as long as he keeps things in the dark, man likes to keep his sins in the dark also, but the light of Jesus exposes the truth

    Ephesians 5

8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light

Jesus is the bright and morning star

    Revelation 22:16

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

God is represented by light so it's assumed that Satan is represented by the opposite. It's all man made cr*p . Look at horror movies ,Have you ever seen one without a thunder storm?

Lucifer, aka Satan was once the Angel of Music, beautiful and on the right hand of GOD. He made god mad and was banished to hell and thus out of God's light and presence thus darkness.

Its difficult to discern the antagonistic relationship Satan has with God if he's represented as an angel.
