So if evolution is false...?
...then presumably Swine Flu has been about since Genesis. How come we've not one recorded case of it except recently?
Or is this God creating something new, to punish people for something or other?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is Satan associated with darkness?
Pondered this when some gimp or another was talking about 'Satanists hiding in the shadows, come into the light' earlier. Not that I'm a satanist, mind, but I was under the understanding that Satan was originally Samael, known as Lucifer, the Morning Star, bringer of light.
So what happened there? Career change? Mid-life crisis?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf the fruit of the tree of knowledge in Eden conferred the ability to determine right from wrong...?
...why were Adam and Eve punished for eating it? I mean, prior to eating the fruit, they wouldn't have known it was wrong to do so. Wouldn't have even understood the concept.
Alternatively, if you take the stance God made it very clear it was Wrong and Bad to eat the fruit, then they already had the concepts of right and wrong laid out to them. So why would it matter if they ate the fruit?
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow'd you know if your Windows CE device is ARM, MIPS, SH3, or something else?
I've just bought a Psion Netbook Pro a few days ago, and I have no idea what this even means ;)
1 AnswerPDAs & Handhelds1 decade agoHow would Heaven be perfect?
...if you were fully aware that there were people in Hell suffering for all eternity? Perhaps people you've met on the street. Perhaps family, or friends. Wouldn't you be feeling a tiny touch of unease at the idea of this? If not, how on Earth are you claiming the moral high ground?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy would a perfect creator make an imperfect creation?
I'm not talking about understanding the creator, I'm talking about a creator with apparently limitless power showing errors of judgement.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoGiven that most (if not all) English Speaking countries are 'Christian' in origin...?
Why are the English days of the week so pagan? They're either named after astronomical bodies - Sunday (obvious), Monday (Day of the Moon) - or Ancient gods, almost entirely Norse ones - Tuesday (Tyr's Day), Wednesday (Wodin's Day), Thursday (Thor's Day), Friday (Frige's Day), and Saturday (Saturn's Day).
Come on Christians. You had a couple of thousand years to suppress this stuff, how come you left these so blatantly in the open?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf Wiccans/other miscellaneous pagans are 'getting their power from Satan'...?
as suggested by an earlier answer today, doesn't it strike you that Satan is, well, a bit crap?
I mean, this is supposedly the great adversary, someone who led the rebellion against heaven. If he's doling out power to these folks, I'd expect them to be lobbing fireballs about and calling down pestilential rains on orphanages. Instead they just have a tendency to dance around in the nude and bugger around with healing crystals, tarot decks, and peculiarly angled webcam shots.
Is this really the best opposition God can find?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf it took 40 days and 40 nights to flood every landmass in the world...?
... did people not have time to consider lashing a couple of tables together or anything?
Did wood technology not exist in the days of Genesis? Was Noah the only person capable of building a boat? In the New Testament, it seems like every third person is a fisherman; did nobody have boats already?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAnyone owned a Psion Netbook Pro?
Been using the series 7 myself for years, and love it to bits, but eventually I know it'll die on me... And I can't help noticing the Netbook Pro is available for about $150 on eBay. Same machine, but with Windows CE.
Anyone used one? How's the battery life? Still get a good eight hours or so out of it? Can you transfer files via Bluetooth or USB, rather than the old serial cable? Any bugbears about it?
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoBest freeware for Converting AVI to MP4s?
Tried half a dozen things found on Google today, tired of trial versions, nagware, watermarks, etc. Is there anything you'd recommend that just, you know, converts AVIs to MP4s, no hassle?
3 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agoIf God discriminates against gay people, can they sue the church?
Just a passing thought. Currently God forbids gay marriage by law in a lot of states, and indeed, frowns upon gay people generally.
Now, if you were to replace the word 'gay' with 'black', or 'jewish', or even 'women', there'd be many a church on fire right now, and lawyers would be booked solid for years to come. This is a society where you can claim millions for not being expressly told hot coffee is, you know, hot, and shouldn't be poured onto your crotch while driving.
I think there's some money to made here, especially in these politically correct times.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes the Coperhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics disprove an omniscient God?
Blimey, I know, a bit weighty for the typical question on here. Still, in a nutshell, what this particular theory (around since 1927, and still popular) states is that every particle anywhere can be described as a potential waveform of varying states, which collapses into actuality when it is measured or observed. This is the theory that led Erwin Schrödinger to present his famous cat gedanken experiment, where until the box is opened, the cat inside is both alive and dead.
So where does this tie into God? Well, the Big Three religions all give us an omniscient God, capable of seeing everything simultaneously. As he sees everything, everywhere, wouldn't this lead to the instantaneous collapse of every quantum waveform in the universe?
(Hint: This would be A Bad Thing. An 'End of the Universe' type thing.)
Oh, and if anyone wants to claim Quantum Physics is a load of old bunk, bear in mind the PC you're refuting it on relies on it being correct for it to function correctly nowadays. :)
A couple of links for physics fans:
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSo why are all the Christians getting upset about this sign in Washington State?
I thought you /liked/ signs?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow does Warhammer Online compare to WoW?
Right now, I've barely enough PC to run minesweeper, but I've played WoW in the past, will probably end up doing so again. Used to like the Warhammer setting with the RPG/Tabletop variety, though. Wasn't so keen on Games Workshop's decision to just start turning out figures for the sake of wringing every bit of cash out of it they could, which is mostly why I stopped playing many, many years ago. Of course, on an online game, this wouldn't be an issue.
So, if you've played both, what are the ups and downs of WO?
2 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoWhen they say the promised land is 'flowing with milk and honey'...?
Is it just me, or does that sound a bit... sticky? I can't help but think it'll have the biggest insect problem ever. And do diabetics and lactose intolerants have to go there too?
22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoLooking for suggestions for first anniversary gift?
Paper anniversary, traditionally, which is difficult to think of something representative of; post-it notes just don't cut it. I'm sure I'll think of something, but if you've any ideas, or anything you did for your first, I'd be fascinated to hear them :)
15 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, do you reckon the clocks going back have well and truly buggered up Yahoo's DB?
"You answered a question 2 points (-3487 second ago)"
And it keeps telling me a cumulative score of anything I've earned in the last ten minutes. Anyone else noticing this?
