Heart Attack Question?

My friends aunt just had a heart attack. They say only 50% of the heart is active now. What does that mean? Is that going to be a good candidate for a transplant, or can someone have a decent quality of life with only 50% of their heart working?

It depends on the 50%. They mean 50% of the muscular tissue lost its blood supply, and that tissue is then inactive scar tissue. It can't flex. So the remainder of the muscle does the work. Its more difficult, but apparently can still pump.

What QOL I could not say.
