I putting a third zone on a hot water baseboard/ oil furnace .?

How do I tell which is the return or the supply direction of flow, does the recir pump draw the water to the furnace or push it to the baseboards?

    It all depends on the system and the installer, but circulators can flow both towards and away from the boiler. Look at the circulator and there should be an arrow indicating direction of flow, that will tell you supply or return. Also, the supply should come off the top of the boiler and the return should be near the bottom.
