Why are so many people so obsessed with names like Addison, Avery, Bailey, Peyton, Landon etc..?

my girlfriend made me post this because apparently she hates them with a fiery passion

Update:

Let's see. I'm just theorizing here but...

Addison seems more popular since Grey Anatomy came on air, and personally I'm not really a fan.

Avery seemed like a really unique name; a few years back I only knew it from one source (adventures in odyssey) now I've seen it every way, so I'm not sure what to think of it any more.

Bailey. I'm not sure where this one stem from or how it got so popular, not to say anything against those who love the name. It's just not fav of mine.

Peyton. I know its been used other places, but for me I think of Peyton Manning number 18, for that reason alone I love it.

Landon. I have actually not hear the name Landon to often, so I'm pretty neutral on the subject.

The truth is to each his own. Everybody has different favorite names, which is great because life would just be that much more confusing if we were all called the same name. Or boring if we went by number.

Well, I certainly hate Bailey as a girl's name with a "fiery passion".

I worked at the Humane Society for 3 years in the late '90's and every other dog seemed to be "Bailey". It's been in the top 10 of dog names for years. Why the hell would you want to name your kid that???

Landon irritates me because of Michael Landon I guess. That's always what I think of.

I would never name my children any of the names, but I don't have the fiery passion for the rest.

I agree. Most of these aren't first names, as far as I'm concerned, and I think they're awful.

If people like these names so much, they should change their own names and leave their poor kids alone.

My personal least favorite: Kennedy as a girl's name, or as anyone's first name, really. And Madison is an avenue, not a girl's name.

Edit: I wish I'd still be around when the nursing homes will be filled with old ladies named Bailey, Whitney, and Madison. Those names will sound as out of date as names like Elsie and Beulah sound now.

I don't really like any of the whole "trendy" name thing that is going on around here. There are so many people naming their children Aiden and Isabella, that the traditional names are becoming less and less common.

I love names like Katherine, Elizabeth, Samantha, Jennifer, Lisa, Natalie, Benjamin, David, James, Jonathan, Matthew, Robert, William, and Zachary. So, yes, I love and adore traditional names. Who wants to be 35 years old and have the name Asher or Phoenix?

    :)

    Agreed.

They are trendy, but people haven't realized that they are popular yet. Less people are using names like Emily and Jacob because they are the MOST popular, but once people hear that these names are so socially acceptable they gravitate towards them. I don't really like those kind of names, some are nice though. And yet, most are horrid.

I agree, these names will be popular for a short period of time but go out really fast, I think. My issue is these names on girls....

I'm a little sick of seeing them but I really can't stand Bailey. For a girl it's bad but for a boy is horrible!

People now want names that are unique, like those listed.

But not they're becoming overused and annoying.

I'm with your girlfriend on this one.
