Nikon D90 vs Nikon D200?

I am looking at buying a new camera and am a dedicated Nikon user. I am a photographer and have used a D70 for the past 4 years or so. I would love to get a Nikon D300, but, sadly, I don't have the cash. It is really upsetting, because yesterday I found one for 850 dollars and today I tried to order it and the same site now has it for 1400. :((

My question concerning the D90 vs the D200 is this: Since the D200 is older, but a more professional camera, and the D90 is newer but more amateur focused which one ends up being better?

Have you used either or even both?

I would be very grateful for your advice.

Thanks.

    Nikon D200 Vs D300

The D90 wins by a parsec.

The image quality on a D200 is pretty close to that of a D60, and the D90 wipes the floor with that. Then you have the advances in general usability and ergonomically and the D90 kicks the D200 up the backside and down the stairs.

Another big thing for me is the Active D-Lighting, which is in the D90 but not the D200.

I'm glad for your sake that you missed the D300. I would even pick a D90 over a D2x. When you talk about value for money, camera per dollar, the D90 is arguably the best SLR out there right now.

The D90 would have better high ISO noise levels and more modern improvements due to it's newer technology. Although the D200 is more professional, it's still a good camera but if I were you, I'd spend the cash on the D90, it's a wiser investment I'd say.

The D90 uses the same sensor used in the D300 which is better than the D200, and on top of that is better and bigger LCD panels. And if you want, you could also add a battery grip to the D90.

I've never used either of them, I shoot Pentax myself. But my friend has the newer D5000 and although entry-level, it uses the same sensor as the D90 also. I must say, the image qualities are very impressive.

D90 has newer tech and will take better quality pictures. However, the D200 is a better built and tougher camera, with magnesium alloy construction, as opposed to the plastic D90. Also the D200 meters with old manual focus lenses, if you ever needed to.

In general though, I'd recommend D90, unless you know you will be shooting under abusive conditions like sand or high humidity, in which case the D200 will be preferred.

I would get the D200. The D200 is more pro and my friends have gone through three, yes there, D90's and they all had some kind of hardware issue. If you search online for hardware issues with the Nikon D90, you'll have lots of disgruntled customers.

The D90 will shoot photos that are AT LEAST as good as the D300. They have the same sensor, similar controls, and similar firmware. In fact, the D90 has arguably better picture quality due to its newer firmware.

The only thing that the D300 would be better at is high speed (FPS) photography, but at 4.5 FPS, the D90 holds its own.

The D200 is a nice camera, but the D90 easily whips it.

The D90 has much newer technology and has many of the features found on the Nikon D300 Any camera can shoot landscapes and people. The lens you buy determines your success shooting landscapes (10-24 mm or 12-24 mm) and portraits (50 mm f/1.4, 18-55 mm, 24-70 mm, etc). Well, that and your photo skills.

The Nikon D300 is quite the expensive camera. I saw it on Amazon for over 2000 bucks so....

The D90 is a great camera and will work for you. I found it on Amazon for a cool 979.99 bucks. I hope this helps!
