how good is ike diogu?

so i was reading the ball dont lie section on the hornets, and i read that ike diogu is like a huge upgrade or something, i remember him from gsw and he sucked...but he never really played much. so i did a little research and i learned that he scored 30 and grab 12 boards in his last 2 games and i was like dam, wtf. so if diogu got the minutes(he had like 40 min last 2 game) would he be a beast?

I would say Ike Diogu is a better and very efficient finisher (not to mention he is a reliable free-throw shooter) than many fellow tweeners and this explains why he can get a job in NBA. He is really a beast if he gets meaningful minutes and touches.

Certainly his height hinders his defense, but if you want a reliable post scorer, Diogu is a good option - the fact is the majority of NBA teams pile up defensive centers in their 2nd unit, and by pairing a scorer like Diogu with a tall and big defensive center is a well-balanced setup.

Diogu could again be buried in Hornets bench given they got Darius Songaila from Wolves, another PF who is renowned of his precise shooting. However, Hilton Armstrong is less reliable as a defensive center, and Hornets should consider to run a smaller but dynamic lineup, using more complete offensive game to offset its defensive deficiency.

Hell no. Ike was good back at AZ state like 6 years ago because you can be a dominant small 4 in the college game. He plays the 4 spot at like 6'7" in the NBA. Needless to say that is F-ing small. He is just not a true nbaer and will likely be outta the league soon. Playing behind David West and Hilton on the hornets won't help his cause either. They won't be blowing too many people out anytime soon. Anyone can drop 40 once in a while with GS. They have a completely open offense under Don Nelson. And consistently put up bad shots as a team. As a former, I think 8th pick in the draft, Dude sucks!

Ike Diogu has always been able to score. Its been his carelessness on defense that has stopped him from ever being a real player in the league. The fact that he is undersized to play the 4 doesn't help his cause either. If he ever rounded himself into shape and showed some interest in guarding people, he could carve out a nice role as a scoring big off someone's bench. Being a beast? I don't think he's got enough game to hold his own with the Duncan's and Stoudemire's of the world.

He was a great college player at ASU, especially on the offensive end earining him the Pac-10 MVP. His NBA career has been pretty unimpressive thus far. He isn't very tall for a PF, but does have long arms, which somewhat makes up for it. His offensive game isn't always pretty, but he does have a knack for puttin the ball through the hoop. If he can ever get some playing time and confidence, he might end up being a decent player. A lot of people got excited about him after his stellar finish to last season, which you noted. I would take it with a grain of salt. It was only 2 games, and they were not exactly crucial minutes. I think he was a good pick-up, with not much of a downside. He could end up being good, and was the best available option for the Hornets.
