If your good you can make almost $100 every night. 20% on $500 in sales is not hard to do. Find a good popular restaurant. Work nights, especially weekends. Chains usually have a good following so they are always busy.

I have been waitressing for a little while and just here recently since the economy is so bad im not making anything for tips my boss keeps telling us to hang in with her things will get better the problem is is that not many people want to go out to eat cause of money prob and the ppl that do dont tip very good at all, thank goodness the only reason i have my job is to have something to do during the days.. i make 3.15/hr and prolly average 60.00 a night. I think the only places youll get any money from are very high class restaurants and hooters lol i work at a fairly nice mexican restaurant btw.

I just moved back home recently and quit waitressing, but I had been living in a large city in Tennessee. I worked at Ryan's Steakhouse buffet and grill. After the first 3 weeks, when I started earning closing shifts, I never left with less than $300 a week plus a check for around $30-$50. I also have worked in a college town at Outback Steakhouse. Even after two weeks when I started earning opening and closing shifts, I still only made on average $200 a week, check included!
I think that had something to do with the fact that at most sit down restaurants, you have very slow table turnover, compared to buffet style. I may have only made $1 per head at buffet, but I would have anywhere from 6-8 tables on non busy nights and 4 tables on busy nights, compared to sit down-usually only 3 tables MAX. Plus, you have less customer interaction to deal with at buffet style. You don't feel like you're smothering them all the time, which can decrease your tip, I found.

I work at a Chinese restaurant in Montana. I make an average of 60.00 a night and get paid 7.25 an hour, but my tips have definitely gotten worse with the economy. A year ago my average was more like 80.00

Okay I read a question you posted about your stomach hurting from two years ago. Idk if you still have that problem but it might be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeliac_disease I've had family members who had it and it can be pretty serious. Gluten intolerance is pretty common but not many people know about it. BTW if you search google "my stomach hurts" its one of the top results(#3) I'm not trying to be weird or anything but I wanted to help and you don't allow email.
