Where to live in greater Glasgow area?

We are looking to move to Glasgow area in the future and build a place in a semi rural area that is within commuting distance of the city. Looking for a nice but not too expensive area. Doesn't need to be like the west end but somewhere not bad. Would love your recommendations please.

Update:

Thanks for the answers so far. I was thinking of somewhere a little further out from the city than those areas. Please keep your suggestions coming.

Milngavie and Bearsden are to the north, on a commuter railway line.

Both are right on the edge of the countryside and Loch Lomond is about half an hour away by car.

There are some mansions but there is cheaper housing too.

    Glenboig/Glenmavis.

They are up past Coatbridge, not too far from city centre.
